Question Heater Coil Leaking

Passenger side is wet, windows fog up, smells like antifreeze, and i have to keep filling up the radiator with new fluid. I have a 92 SVX with 190,000 on it. I was checking the lower hose on the passenger side and it seems fine. My guess is the actual heater coil is busted.

I am looking for a how to for replacing the svx heater coil. I searched this forum, but couldn't find anything. If anyone has anything on where to start from, that would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!!!

When following the steps to remove the evaporator in the a/c how-to you will see how to remove the heater core.

located above fan amplifier. Disconnect cooling unit drain hose.
Remove cooling unit bolts.
         3) Remove cooling unit. Remove refrigerant temperature and
evaporator sensors from cooling unit. Remove clamps holding cooling
unit upper and lower housings. Separate cooling unit housing. Remove
evaporator. See Fig. 8.
         Installation
To install, reverse removal procedure. Evacuate and charge

One question though... is there any way to do this without disconnecting the AC?

I haven't done it on a SVX, but I would venture to say that you would definitely have to evac the a/c system.

You could just bypass the heater core if you can stand the cold and don't want do fix it properly due to $, time or lack of tools.

I am going to double check my diagnosis of the heater core because this looks like as much fun as when my flex plate broke. Thanks for the pdf, I'm going to recheck the lines and hope i just missed one that was leaking. If the core is bad, I'll do the quick bypass fix for now.

What about the stop leak radiator stuff? If i were to put the heater core in its own closed loop and pump the stop leak through it, would that work?

Thanks Patrick for the offer, I see your in the northwest! I'll PM you once I'm 100% sure (heater core out of my car).

I am not sure about the stop leak fix, but do believe that doing it like a closed loop is a good and bad idea. It's smart as it doesn't put that crap into the rest of the system; but bad in that I am under of the impression that heat is involved in the sealing process. It may depend on the product you are going to use as they all can't be the same and therefore all have different operating properties. I think YT has a favorite brand, so PM him about this. I prefer the GM Top End sealer tabs. I think NAPA sells them.
