using a metric converter on the internet, 8 kilometers = 4.97 miles...wouldnt that suffice for the standard? YOu could affix a piece of bubble gum or 2 to the rear bumper for the extra .3.

I am still concerned and you will need to really call the inspection site or something first. I am worried that the car might only have a 2.5mph bumper and not 5. I have no idea.

here is the link if it helps

1 Kilometer = 0.62137 Miles

Consumer Reports used to employ a "bumper basher" battering ram to simulate a 5 MPH impact, and I'm pretty sure the SVX passed the test without damage. Of course, that 5 MPH bumper standard was relaxed but the Feds under pressure from Detroit. I don't think the magazine bothers with this test any longer, because all cars now fail.

The SVX was initially released in '92 At that time, there was a 5mph bumper law. You can't go wrong being over the mandate, and I can't see Subaru going to the expense to downgrade the safety of an existing model. That would have meant engineering new structures, and recertifying them.

I'd bet a dollar against a doughnut that the later SVXi still meet the 5mph standards.

I am glad everyone is helping out, however, I think all this logic and conjecture is not enough. He is going to have to make sure that the car is listed and rated with 5mph bumpers. The fact that it did not sustain damage will not be enough at the border and a demonstration is not advised

thanks for all the help though...Nice to know..

I'm from Montreal. My '94 SVX is from Florida. I bought it off someone else but he only had it inspected once.. when it came over the border. So I would assume it passed the bumper rating.

I'm new here. I am looking to buy an SVX. I live in Canada and it seems that most of the selection is in the US. I prefer a later model like 96 or 97 with low miles. This would also mean that it would not be exempt from the Canadian federal auto laws being less than 15 years old. One such law is that the bumpers must be rated at 8KM/hour on a crash. Would any one here know if a 1996 or 1997 SVX has its bumpers rated at that?

I have my eye on that 29K miles currently on eBay.

Thanks in advance

Max
so did you win it? ended a lil while ago at 11100.... cant believe he got that much for it, prob see it relisted next week
