All SVXs were built on the one assembly line in Japan.

However, I assume you are asking whether SVXs were sold by Subaru in Australia.

The answer is yes - but only about 250 were sold here.

They differ from Japanese-market SVXs in several areas:

1. AUDM SVXs have a Subaru badge on the front, instead of the "Alcyone" badge.

2. AUDM SVXs have the words "Subaru SVX" on the rear light panel, instead of "Alcyone SVX"

3. AUDM SVXs came standard with the USDM style rear spoiler.

4. AUDM SVXs do not have "POWER" or "ECON" buttons on the transmission shift lever panel.

Jason.

Cool SVX in Aussie

One thing to watch - here in NZ there were 2 early variations that were produced in Japan that DO NOT meet frontal impact safety testing reports.

Hence they are not allowed in NZ to be road driven - but can be used for spare parts.

Sorry but cannot remember the chassis letters, but they are available for viewing by any VTNZ testing station ring-binder catalogue.

regards

Steve in NZ

svx import

as far as i know they are not eligable and even if you could sumhow get one it would be pointless, it would cost you as much if not more than an aus delivered one. even if you buy the car for 2-3k, plus sjipping, 1-1.5k, plus compiance 2-3k, plus new tyres as jap ones arnt legal here, 500, plus rego, roadworthy etc another 1k your already upto 9 k and that dont even include custom broker fees and import approval fees and other little things taht will pop up and youve paid 9-10 all up and you are buying something you havent driven or seen in person, for the same money you can go look at it here , drive it and if you like it you can buy it

Yep what he said

However you can get one as an import from NZ, u have to own the car over there for at least 1 year before u can bring it here.

The is a JDM SVX in canberra, Black, with the 4ws system, its the only proven one i know of in aus (alouth i have heard rumors of another)

This is what Subaru NZ claims but is not correct. According to Subaru Japan the JDM SVX was never tested against the 1996 Japanese Frontal Impact Standards.

Due to very low production numbers, the cost of testing and that the 1996 S4 model was a carry over of the earlier models, Subaru Japan got an exemption from meeting the Standards for the SVX. The S4 model did get upgraded to include dual front airbags and this is the only model allowed to be imported into NZ now.

Subaru Japan also said that the JDM SVX 'would have most probably passed the Standards had it been tested as it had met or exceeded other world market crash standards at the time.'

Just to restate all of the above, they are not able to be imported unless it's as a personal import owned overseas for 12 months.

There's at least 2 JDM's then, because there was a burgundy one on Ebay last year sometime that was definitely JDM...so if there's another one in Canberra (and I've only seen one other since I've been back which was Silver and I saw it in Gungahlin on Saturday) I'd like to see it.

That makes 3...whatever happened with 'E'?
