Guys, I need help

I'm entering my car in its very first car show.
Nothing fancy, just a local meet.
What I need to know is all the questions I can expect to hear from people who don't know what my car is.
Can you guys give me some pointers?

alright, here are some common questions. I've provided answers which I feel are the most appropriate.

Q: "What kind of car is that?"
A: "#$*% you."

Q: "What's with those windows?"
A: "$*&@ you."

Q: "Does it go fast?"
A: "$(%* you."

Q: "Dual exhausts on a four-cylinder??"
A: "$(%* you, it's a flat-six."

Q: "No really, does it go fast?"
A: "No really, $*@& you."

Q: "What year is that?"
A: "$*#* you."

Q: "What's the displacement on the motor?"
A: "$(#* you."

Q: "Can I sit in it?"
A: "#(&% you. no."

Q: "What did it cost?"
A: "$*$& you."

This might explain why I never do well at car shows. I suggest reading one of the FAQ's and maybe even printing a copy out to take with you for reference. Also a neat idea would be to find a cutaway drawing of the engine and bring a copy of that.. SVX has one of the coolest engines I've seen in awhile.. Be prepared to explain why it's not a five-speed..

If your show is anything like Autofest, most people don't ask questions, they just stare.

Our favorite question was from an elderly woman who asked, "Who makes the Subaru?"

When they ask about the windows, tell them it was designed by the same guy who designed the DeLorean. Then, when they say, "oh, John DeLorean" --- pop them in the mouth.

Also, some folks, when you say 230 horsepower flat six, all you have to do is open the hood and the conversation comes naturally.

Just go with the flow. You know all the neat features of the car. Impress them with the fact that it's overly engineered and before its time (lots of folks thought ALL of our SVXes were from the same year -- 2002-- and that we didn't belong in a classic car show.

Just have fun. The words will come.

Yeah, I was the one who got the 'who makes the Subaru' question. What a riot. I could have told her 'Volkswagen' and she would have accepted it. I kinda wish that I was going this year. I expect that some of the annual people, seeing SVXs there for a second year in a row, may actually show some interest.

I'll go next year.

And you're definitely right about the engine. People love to hear about it. A friend here at the office (Mustang with a supercharged 351 Windsor) enjoys asking me questions. After I provide the answer, his reaction is usually 'weeeeeeeeeiiiiiiiiiirrrrrrd...'

The small windows are to stop people climbing in to steal the expensive stereo.

Call the engine a flat six, they will think Porsche. Tell them instead it's a boxer six, keep them confused.

If Steve's old lady is back asking who made the Subaru, tell her the nice people at Mount Fuji Industries in Japan, and that it is four-wheel-drive to cope with the snow on top.

The roof and trunk lid are painted in Stealth Black to confuse police helicopter thermal cameras.

The windows are titanium coated as an anti-UV device to keep occupants safe from harmful police radar radiation.

And there are no cupholders for safety, the car is for driving, not for sitting in traffic queues.

That'll send a few of them away bemused Michelle.

Tell them the windows are small enough to keep cops from smelling alcohol on your breath. (Thanx Joe )

Tell them it's a boxer, like so many Ferraris.

If Steve's old lady is back asking who made the Subaru, tell her the nice people at Mount Fuji Industries in Japan, and that it is four-wheel-drive to cope with the snow on top.

Tell them it's built by Phooey Industries, a Japanese company owned by Ford. Add that it's really a 2003 Pinto.

Not to mention it keeps you safe from being abducted by aliens. (damned NAFTA...) Otherwise known as the Bert Campbell feature.

And there are no cupholders for safety, the car is for driving, not for sitting in traffic queues.

Just like there were no ashtrays in the Bricklin SV-1. Safety was such an issue for Malcolm Bricklin that he was compelled to further champion the safety cause by importing the Yugo.
