Yoshi has given the best explanation of the difference.

I have a 94 SVX and a 96 Legacy GT wagon. The GT is only 155 hp and has an automatic, the only way it was offered in 96.

The GT is a great car for what it is, but there's just no comparison with the performance, handling, etc. of the SVX.

On a couple of the other issues:

Yes, the SVX is low (I have scraped the nose numerous times on too-steep driveway ramps, and I find it incredible that any SVX owner has not done this), but the idea of raising it is ridiculous! The height of the Outback is what makes it a less-satisfying driver's car than the GT.

The scoop on the later-year GT's ruins their lines, and I'm glad my 96 doesn't have it. The "plain" hood on the SVX is beautiful with its subtle shaping.

Don't plan on a 3.0 H-6 ever being in a GT.
If any change, the magic 8-Ball says turbo (ala WRX)

Yep

Here in Australia we got the B4 (twin turbo legacy) after 18months of tuning for Australian conditions/regulations.

checkout http://www.subaru.com.au for an Aussie perspective on subaru...

Cheers,
Pete.

Also have heard of them possibly having a 'sport shifter'. I guess in Japan and Europe, the Legacy GT's actually have an option of steering wheel mounted paddle shifters. We (the U.S.) may not get the full treatment of having paddle shifters, but may get some variation of it, maybe like a tiptronic-type shifter.

And yes, I've heard turbo rumor as well.

And no, I didn't mean to imply that the Legacy's were anywhere near the car that the SVX is. It's like comparing apples to oranges. I happen to love apples... and oranges! Aww hell, I want one of everything!
