Banning Flavored Tobacco Pt. 2

If you recall or I can show you I posted on this subject before while the bill was in its infancy still being lobbied around.

Well, now the bill has been passed by the House of Representatives and with a twist that has got me really upset. Apparently while Democrat Reprisentative Henry Waxman and Republican Tom Davis were down on their luck peddling an earlier iteration a kind corporation offered them support in return for some slight changes in the bill which you now see today. This "altruistic" corporation is Philip Morris and the change they required was the exemption of menthol as a flavor to be banned by the FDA who now fully supports it.

In what a author so poignantly called the Marlboro Monopoly Act this bill if passed by the Senate will manage to shatter the 1st Amendment Bill of Rights and 2nd Amendment's Interstate Commerce Clause. In my opinion this bill is not only racist but has the kind of naked plutocratic favoritism or corporate protectionism in the guise of public health that should never see the light of day if you don't want it to set precedents that could jeopardize what this is being pushed to protect.

The only hope if this bill passes is if the Supreme Court can come to their senses, they surely don't need to take a closer look to figure out how its biased and what its violating.

Re: Banning Flavored Tobacco Pt. 2

What exactly is the government doing right now, or have been doing for some time, that has been favorable to the rule of proper law, and within the bounds of the US Constitution and Bill of Rights?

Hostile takeovers of private enterprises, big and small, from GM to their independent dealers?

Lending like a bank, while nationalizing and subjugating other banks?

Campaign Finance Reform that blatantly limits free speech in the political realm?

Kelo vs. New London, where the government can take property and give it to "better" taxpayers?

Monday, when the Supreme Court refused to hear and uphold bankruptcy and contract law, and ignored a blatant destruction of contract rights for secured bond holders?

The US Government has overstepped every one of it's constitutional limits, and abridged every one of the rights in the Bill of Rights...

Do you think this is not par for the course, and merely a taste of what is coming?

Maybe you need an reading lesson. It clearly says that tobacco products can contain ONLY tobacco and menthol and that ANY flavor is not permitted. It lists some flavors but it applies to all other than menthol.

I apologize for the hotlinking overload, just trying my best to pan out the saga of how this misguided bill became downright crooked.

Oh, and the Senate passed it. The only hurdle left now is getting it past the President's desk.

Banning Flavored Tobacco Pt. 2.5

As it turns out representatives and some of the largest businesses of an entire country are up in arms over this new piece of legislation as Indonesia fires a complaint to the WTO over discriminatory trade practices. While others are raising demographic concerns over the loophole.

Now we have to wait and see until what conditions if ever will the President sign this bill into affect.

I'm so glad the government is looking out for my health. I hope they tell me what to eat soon and how much to exercise. Maybe they can even tell me which religion to be a part of. No more messy choices!

I'd be lost without Big Brother and Dear Leader!

Re: Banning Flavored Tobacco Pt. 2

As far as I heard, they're gone. I think they had to pull them from the shelves last week in order to comply with the legislation. All you can get now is menthols and flavored cigars (ie. Prime Times, Swishers etc.)
