I would think that it would be more about his infidelity than his sexuality. Kinda like . . . what's his name . . . in Illinois, who dropped out of the senate race because his wife said that he'd taken her to sex clubs. He, of course, never admitted it, but he resigned anyway. McGreevy has admitted his infidelity and feels the need to resign. Infidelity with whomever, or whatever is (from my standpoint, anyway) not a quality I want in the person who represents my views. If he feels that his consitituency feels the same, he is right to resign. But then, that's just me.

I agree that perhaps his infidelity MIGHT be reasonable cause to resign, however it appears to me that the article makes the implication that his resignation at least partly has to do with his sexuality.

Well, you'd have to admit, that if someone were elected as a Gay advocate who was there to stand up for gay rights and gay values were suddenly discovered to be having an affair with a woman and secretly raising a family, and, in fact was actually straight and --- well, it could be quite a shock. If he were elected on a platform of "straight family values," y'know, pulled out the family in front of the cameras and said, "This is what I represent," basically, misleading his constituents for political gain (so, what's new, you ask), then, I still think he made the right decision.

And remember that an article only gives that one point of view or their thought on what happened. That is their opinion, and maybe not FACT of what his thought or reason is!

The rumors were running ramapant before his speech.

Basically, there supposedly were charges being brought against him for sexual harrassment.

As it turns out, the charges were being brough against him by his "partner". A great way to avoid a sexual harrassment charge is to admint having a relationship with that person...

Although, I have to add that this was one of the worst kept secrets in NJ. A while ago the Gov. broke his foot, and who accompanied him to the ER? His lover

He resigned because his ex lover was going to sue him about something and he didnt want it to come out like that. Ppl were going to find out either way...i dont think he resigned because he was gay i think it was because of the lawsuit coming against him.

Question

...and in his "farewell" address McGreevy states - "I am a gay-American".

HUH!!?? Whew, for a minute I thought he might be a gay-Norwegian.
Just what we need - one more hyphenated category of persecuted humanity.

Ron (curmudgeon-American).

I think there was also an issue of his lover being on his support staff payroll (i.e. a state taxpayer-funded salary) and not doing anything constructive for the taxpayers of NJ (okay, Ron...."but he was obviously very constructive for the Gov...") - not actually very unusual for small towns in the U.S., but frowned upon at the state level...
I really don't think his resignation can be tied only to his sexual orientation - I think it was really a question of political incompetence....
