Sorry to get your worked up JP We all have our dealer horror stories I think. What's unfortunate about mine is that my dealer is really one of the best in the country (They only sell Subaru) and they have a very competent staff and an impeccable reputation. They have fixed things in the past right the first time, I've never had to go back for them to fix their mistakes. They have even saved me money and aggravation by finding out simple solutions. I had a stalling problem that was due to the battery not being tied down properly. They did great work on that. But this latest debacle I believe was caused by pure laziness. Laziness is almost as bad as incompetence. Now, for those of you that have lazy, incompetent Subaru shops, my heart goes out to you!
I have lost a lot of faith in my dealer, but hope they will do something to make up for it (i.e. not charge me an arm and a leg for labor). They royally screwed up on this one. I should bill them for the frenzy they whipped me into by telling me I needed a new engine! Jeff

I hope your dealer can do right by you. However, when it comes to the SVX most dealers aren't much better off than the owner when it comes to knowledge on how to fix them.
Doug Mohr, who occassionally posts on this board, just put an $800 toilet in the house he is remodelling (he'll probably get some crap for that, both figuratively and literally. Sorry Doug ) so we could assume he could afford to take his car to a dealership to have his timing belt replaced. But because he doesn't trust the local dealer (for similar reasons to mine) we, along with a few other friends, spent an afternoon doing the work ourselves. So far he doesn't appear to have any complaints. Of course I've never soiled an $800 piece of porcelain so you will have to ask him about that I've always found it better to go into the dealership armed with information. This is a good place to become informed. I wish you the best of luck. |

being armed with info. is very important.
my a-hole dealer tried to charge me $475 for a power steering pump when i can get it all day long from subaruparts.com for $343. when i called them on that they quickly dropped their price to $375. which is still not that great. it is a shame what they will try to do. all they care about is making as much money off you as they possibly can!! see now i am getting all pissed......
