Interesting car you picked to find more info about. One of my buddies used to own one. FWD, 3.2L V-6, 220hp & 200 ft-lbs. Overall not a bad package for a Ford back in 89-93, but I've never liked the boxy styling the Taurus' had back then.

To answer your question - parts are extremely hard to find for both the engine and transmission. Ford basically stopped producing them after '93.

Also, the Taurus platform back then was utter crap.
Find a nice V8 SHO if you're not worried about expensive and rare replacement parts, you'll get a better motor and a better chassis to boot.

Agreed. The Gen III SHO's ('96-'99) have much more parts available for them and come with the small displacement V8's churning out like 230hp.

My experience with these is that no matter what, they are still Taurus's. I am not taking anything away from performance, they do have a reasonable amount of power, but the interior and everything else is still Taurus. Personally, I don't like them.

I would recommend going with a T-Bird SC from that era. Good power, RWD, decent suspension, and very tunable.

Actually, working around them 60 hours a week, I can tell you, the V8 Taurus SHO is MUCH better built than the old Thunderbird SCs.

those are rare...i would expect parts to be hard to find, but the people who i know that own them, don't have many problems with them

i definitly like the 2nd gen SHO's. there are many websites out there if you wanna look into it. all my friends have or had them. 5 of my friends to be exact. ok, so i dont have many friends looks for a 1st gen SHO plus. i dont know what was so special, but they are about 1 full second in the quater. but, my basically stock svx is almost as fast. i lost by a half a sec in the quarter to him.

anyways, parts are sorta hard to find, but from what everyone has told me, if you are at all mechanically inclined you can fix it. if you can find one, go for it. very reliable except the tranny.....they go out at almost 110000 miles on the dot.. really weird.

just a side note, the car is kinda like fords svx, minus the windows. and 2 extra doors and many other obvious differences. but its unexpectantly quick, not many around, incredible engine design. bad tranny leather interior with great stereo. just my thought, go ahead and bash it

A buddy of mine used to have an SHO, the first version 3.0 V6 Yamaha motor. It's probably the most similar motor to ours on the market in terms of application.

That car was FUN with the 5 speed... especially after welding in the subframe connectors. Once we got the flex out of the chassis and put some good tires on, it became a pretty fun sports car.

SHOs are cool. Wheelspin was always a problem, but once it hooked up it would fly.

Good call on the subframes Porter. Most of the ones I've seen are beat to crap, still pretty quick even thoe they smoked like crazy. I think they still have really cheap Taurus interiors and all the extra stuff to go wrong like auto climate control and trip computers, that and the suspension really needs help. (especially if the subframe bushings are shot) Other than thoes prbolems it's........ah........still a ford.

No question, i'd go for the 90 SHO. It had the firsts Taurus styling, which I consider so very RoboCop, it was a total sleeper, and when that engine revved, it sounded like something out of a NASCAR racing series.

Not getting it because parts are hard to find!? Hello, we drive SVXs.
