Windshield With alot of pits

Does anyone know of a way to restore my windshield. It has alot of pits in it. I have read about cerium oxide but have also learned of its radioactive properties. Not sure I want to use that.

Is there any other way to restore the glass. Short of replacement of course.

Thanx
Wayne

I just upped my coverage on my isurance to give me lower deductables. Now I follow dump trucks really close on the freeway. It's just a matter of time before I get a new windsheild out of the deal.

Uh, no. "Cesium" has radioactive properties. Not "cerium." Cerium oxide is a rare earth mineral and is merely a very fine abrasive.

Well I'll be damned. This is definitely interesting. I'd certainly not heard of this. I did have to do some further research since I'd been recommending this method of glass polishing and don't want to be responsible for people's ill health. This is what I found:

Wayne, there may be, but, I'm not aware of it. Cerium Oxide is the only thing I've ever heard used for this application. It wouldn't hurt, though, to call, or drop by an autoglass shop and ask. If you call, they may give you the brush off, but, if you drive up and they see the car, they may try and help.
