My car had stalling troubles similiar to yours. I checked all the vacuum hoses, airbox, cleaned/ swapped MAF. My problem was my manifold bolts were loose. Did a quick to the bolts and it ran perfect ever since.

The speed sensor is on the drivers side of the front diff. It is next to the dipstick tube for the front diff gear oil.

Could it be a tps misajustment? My friends pearlie had a similar stalling issue. Also shifted hard between 2-3rd. A few minutes with a voltmeter and a screwdriver fixed it good

Doesn't Subaru put the speedo sensor geared off the passenger side axle? If so, the diff gearing has no effect on the speedo reading. I've never tried a 2 wire speed sensor on a SVX so I can't tell you if that is the problem or not, but I would assume that the speedo wouldn't read at all with a 2 wire sensor.

As for the radiator hoses, I found out the hard way that dealerships and most service places don't check the hoses when swapping the radiator unless it is expressly asked for. Had a hose blow out 2 days after having a new radiator put in. Just a sign of the times we live in now...

If this gets locked, I will likely be done with the car, and with this site.
Very disappointed with this decision.
You are not being punished, nor did anyone say that you called Budfreak a scammer.

This is the thread for this discussion. There did not need to be another thread on the same topic.

Actually, I reconsidered... Thread split and moved back to where it was.

There is, however an ongoing discussion in the Admin area as to what action should be taken here... if any.

OK, Obviously I missed something here and I'm not going to take the time to go around and figure out what. All I need to know is I'm sure it involves at least one Pa. redneck and one person who should have come to me about things before going public. So far from what I figure, I forgot to check a few hoses and put a couple of wires back in their looms after the TONS of work I did. OK. Sorry?? The speed your speedo is reading has nothing to do with anything. Every single 4.44 swap I've done so far has resulted in the speedo reading 3-5 MPH faster as has everyone elses swaps I'm sure(whether they notice it or not). And yes, I use the SVX speed sensor as the Legacy unit has a 3 wire connection and the SVX is only a 2 and are not interchangable. And if you think I'll be covering the cost of anything on a car I dropped off in perfect running condition after a 400+ mile drive, Your sadly mistaken. The gas, No problem. But the rest, I don't think so.

This is where reading the thread before commenting saves you looking silly.
I did go to you privately, but I've not gotten back with you with the laundry list of stuff you missed (and a total of what I'm entitled to be refunded for it) because I'm still tracking down everything you missed, forgot, or neglected to do.

I did NOT post this looking to make you look bad. Since the day my car returned, I've had nothing but trouble, but I did not post that here.
I'm simply looking for assistance troubleshooting current issues with my car, period.

The fact that your swap was even mentioned in this thread was for troubleshooting assistance, ONLY.

However, since you feel the need to air the laundry here...

The radiator hoses were expressly requested when you did the work.
If we're listing the issues with your work, let's add the s/s lines I paid you and additional $20 to install, which was not done, the trans cooler I paid for (you charge $200 for the trans cooler and filter, you did the filter, what % of that $200 is the cooler and labor?) which was not performed, etc...We won't even go into your "2 day" swap taking more than 2 months.

**This was discussed ahead of time, and you said specifically you had the parts to make the speedo read properly after the swap. It's NOT 3-5mph off, it's more than 10mph off at highway speeds, which is completely unacceptable. The swap would never have been performed had I been properly informed.**

So, you're going back on your word now? Great. You said to add up what you missed and you'd be happy to "make it right".
I have 8+ pages of PMs from the day you first contacted me to several days after you brought the car back (more than a month late).
As I see it; you owe me for:

* $30 gas you burned and did not replace (it was full of premium when you picked it up and less than 1/2 full when returned)
* $20 s/s line install
* the % of $200 you charge for the trans cooler/filter package.
I paid for a new cooler and labor, not for you to say "well, it's got a junk cooler (that obviously didn't do its job), I won't bother."

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt...1/2 of that $100 is MORE than fair for the larger part of that job. For $150 (including the gas and s/s lines) I'll let you off the hook. I won't even complain if I find other stuff you missed/forgot/didn't bother with, as long as it's not egregious or leads to the total demise of the car...I'll use it to pay someone to chase down the current issues with the car and hopefully make it what you said it would be when you were done with it. And yes, I have PayPal...Since you asked previously, when you were more willing to "make it right".

Ugh...It kills me that some yokel had to quote this thread as ammunition against you and take it down this road...That was NOT my intent...
I still need help diagnosing and resolving current issues with my car, and I'm afraid now this thread is not going to be useful for that.

Today in addition to the stalling, the warning lights on the dash have started all lighting up, as if the car stalled, but while it's still running. Higher rpms make them brighter, lower rpms make them dim. I guess I'll be checking all the charging system connections and components, but that won't tell me why they're coming on, only why they're dimming at low revs.

After all this, I still love the car. It's just now become more of a love/hate thing.

If the car isn't getting sufficient voltage, it can affect the engine. Around here, autozone and advance auto provide free analysis of the charging system. The reliability of the test varies with the staff member that performs it, so I often go to a few stores to get a various opinions.

Things to check on your own, the connectors on the alternator, mainly the top one that is fastened with a nut. The battery connections. The grounds around the engine, there are a few.

Number 1: I do not ever recall asking you to pay me for the brakelines. I said I would do them if I had time.
Number 2: The only reason the car took so long is because I found so many things screwed up on it and had to order parts to fix them all(radiator, rear bushings, and so on)
Number 3: That speedometer was NOT 10 MPH off when I dropped the car off. I did 60 MPH and according the mile markers and the clock it was very close(within 2 MPH I'd say).
Number 4: The radiator hoses looked fine to me. I was only asked to inspect them to the best of my memory.
Number 5: I can't help the fact that you couldn't simply look under the hood and determine that you already had a cooler. I was told it didn't have one and therefore, Charged you for one. At least I'm honest and said " hey, you already had a cooler so I didn't bother". I could have easily have just said
"Yeah, I put it in". And as I recall, I did something for you to offset the cost of the cooler not being needed, I just don't recall what it was at this time.
Number 6: The gas was a tired after driving from Ohio oversight. I have no problem reimbursing that.
Number 7: Exactly. You haven't gotten back to me with what was going on and instead you aired all this out for the world to read. You worded it and made it sound pretty much like an attack on me rather than a request for help in your first post.

Now, for the cars problems.

1. The charging system is more than likely to blame for the dash lights. Have the alternator checked and check all the connections.
2. The stalling is probably MAF related. Trying using some MAF cleaner or electronics cleaner on it. If that doesn't help, Check out the TPS.

I'll try to document it, but I sent you like 10 different money orders, so it'll be hard to show. I wouldn't say it if it weren't true.

Dude, you ordered a radiator, didn't confirm that it was in stock, then it took you more than 2 weeks to even check on it before they switched you to another model and still took a while to ship. You were also working on other people's SVXs at the time, so let's be honest, you weren't very motivated to stay on top of it.

Honestly, milemarkers and the clock?! Wow. I could care less what your "stopwatch" told you. I've driven past several mobile radar stations lately, and at 25 I'm reading 30 and at 65 I'm more than 75. had I known I'd be that far off, we'd have gone for stock ratios. I drive more than 45 miles each way to work every day on a very closely watched stretch of very rural road and I can't afford to get picked up every week for speeding. You knew before doing the work that this needed to be able to be daily driven, year round.

You were asked to remove them and replace them if they looked like they needed it. You told me after they failed that you didn't even remove the engine-side ends. How do you inspect them without removing them? Besides, if the top hadn't been left smashed against the power steering hose, it likely wouldn't have rubbed through anyway.

So, I should just pay your for it, even though you didn't do it? If this isn't a no-questions refund, I don't know what is. I didn't know there was a cooler in there, because I'm not a mechanic, and never claimed to be. People like me keep people like you in business, so I don't see how it's in your best interest to try to "show us up" by trying to make us look stupid. I never claimed to be a mechanic. Heck, that could be the a/c condenser in there and I'd still never know.

For that matter, what do you intend to refund at this point? Do you still think, even admitting that you charged for a service you didn't do, that all you owe is the gas you used and were already paid for? Heck, if you weren't planning on refunding it, you really should have just gone ahead and let me know it had one and replaced it, because I'd still have wanted you to...Don't you think?

Sorry you feel that way. It wasn't intended that way. If it was, there'd be a lot of mad face emoticons, etc. I'm not shouting or swearing, I'm just trying to get these issues resolved.
I did NOT start this thread to air my issues with you or the work you did (and didn't do) on my car. I simply needed reliable help getting the car going again, and anyone who's going to offer advice is going to have to know what work was done. I couldn't simply ask you privately for help with all this because honestly, I don't have the utmost faith in your work at the moment.

...And thank you for the advice on the current issues. Honestly.

It's not my job to confirm it's there. It is there job to tell me that "hey, We don't have it right now, We'll have to order it". Instead, I called them twice about it and was told it was on order and would arrive soon and the third time I called was when I was told they couldn't get it for a long time and that I could get a different brand a little sooner but for 30 more bucks. Again, Not my fault.

Yes, Milemarkers and the clock in your SVX. It isn't hard to watch a clock as a milemarker goes by to tell you are doing a mile a minute.

And how exactly do you get the upper radiator hose to rub on the power steering hose?? I don't think I've ever seen an SVX with no clearance between the 2 that wasn't wrecked.

Heck, if you weren't planning on refunding it, you really should have just gone ahead and let me know it had one and replaced it, because I'd still have wanted you to...Don't you think?
Like I said, I did something in place of the cooler that we agreed on and I know I did, I just don't recall what. I will refund the gas, But nothing else.

You should watch how you word things then, Because the first 2 or 3 posts from you all make remarks towards me as if your car breaking down is all my fault or something and I don't appreciate it, Especially with all I've dealt with lately from Benebob and so on. Bad timing you could say.

No quotes necessary.

You're claiming you told me while you had the car that it already had a cooler and weren't doing it? And we agreed on "something else", but you don't know what it was? You'd better start thinking and try to do better than that.
I sent you numerous money orders (all of which are legal documents which I have receipts for) for everything you claimed to find wrong on the car while you had it. I never once questioned you when you said the radiator was miraculously cracked (even though it never gave me an ounce of trouble) or that the rear bushings were shot. Heck, I didn't even make you replace the exhaust gasket you destroyed and reinstalled broken instead of taking 5 minutes and $5 to fix...Now it's going to be a bigger job to do it over.

Let me ask you this...Do you not remember the test drive we took when you returned the car and I went - step by step - through everything we agreed on, including the cooler, and you only then telling me it already had one so you didn't do it? I don't buy it.

You sir, are a liar and a thief, and I'm obviously wasting my time here. I'm sorry I ever let you talk me into letting you touch my car. Unless you admit that we talked about it on the test drive and refund the $ you charged me for services you admittedly didn't render, I'm done here and you'll be hearing from someone else you'd rather avoid on the matter. I've been VERY patient and kind so far, but there's a side to me that has kept very close records that you don't want to tangle with. Legal action is within my means...You will wish you owned up to your mistakes and kept your word when you had the chance.

It's a shame the SVX community hasn't banned together to rid itself of parasites like you, taking advantage of people when they're down.
The Admins need to seriously consider if they want to subject potential SVX enthusiasts to people like you on their boards.
