Did these symptoms start shortly after they replaced the switch?

Re: Oil pressure light acting funny

I would remove the oil pump and replace it... i have seen backing plate screws back out and result in spun bearings. Also seen pressure relief valves hang up causing low oil pressure... this is all hinged on the fact that pressure is actually low. Get a suby dealer to hook up a manual gauge to confirm

Re: Oil pressure light acting funny

I forget but it is labor intensive due to location. Have the oil pressure checked first to make sure it is actually low.

Re: Oil pressure light acting funny

If the oile gets diluted with fuel (for one reason or another) the viscosity will be low and this could be the result.... Happened to me on a Range Rover once...... it was a carbed engine and the reason was just moving the car on a lot with the choke on and a VERY rich idle.

Just a thought, but would be evident if you check the actual pressure with a simple mechanical gauge.

Nate, (to a degree)
dcb,
Tony,
Harvey,
Matt,
YT,
And Mike are ALL correct in their statements.
Subaru does have low pressure at idle,
the oil pumps need to be removed and the screws retightened every now and then,
USE ONLY SUBARU PRESSURE SENSORS!

Re: Oil pressure light acting funny

Tapani also brings up a good point, but if your oil gets that contaminated the engine usually seizes about the time the light comes on.

Re: Oil pressure light acting funny

Tom: if the oil pressure was off would I feel more pressure on the engine when the light goes on or even if it didnt go on?

Also anyone, I have a pretty bad oil leak that seems to be at the front passanger side of the engine...is this where theoil pressure sensor or switch or whatever it is called is?

You would not hear the knock from the engine untill the bearings were worn out.
There would not be a power loss untill the bearings started to gaul.
