intake air temp signal to the ECU

I've read somewhere that you may connect a resistor in series with the intake air temperature sensor to make the ECU believe that the air temp is higher and get the ECU to inject more gas. Is this true? Where can I find instruction on it?

You found a Subaru that doesn't run rich as all-git-out already?

What you need to know about this super cool mod: <clicky>

Re: intake air temp signal to the ECU

The first problem you will encounter is finding the IAT sensor.

Re: intake air temp signal to the ECU

the thing is:
1.- my CEL goes on only when the car was running for 2 or 3 min.
2.- I've remove the two first catalizers
3.- when I'm traveling at a steady speed of 60 or 80km/h, if I slightly press the gas pedal I can feel some acceleration change, but if I press it more, there's no change on the acceleration. in fact, I feel like if the car was going to decrease acceleration.

In your experience... what could possibly being happening in my car?

I suggest reading the ECU trouble codes to find out why you are getting a CEL.

Thanks again b3lha.
May be you can recomend me one cool cable and software I can use to connect my lapto to the ECU and get to know why the CEL turns on most of the time.
I've connect a vacuum gauge to monitor vacuum while driving... I found (as we all know) that the aceleration stops when vacuum reaches zero. With this engine in particular, zero vacuum is reached so fast. I suspect the car is running lean and with late ignition timing. IŽll connect my DMM and monitor injectorŽs duty cycle to confirm this.
do you know any way to change the ignition timing in this engine?

Re: intake air temp signal to the ECU

There is a bunch of info on this in the how to section, under "trouble codes".

Here are 2 good ones:

Check Engine Code Location with pics:
http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/showthread.php?t=54037

How to Check Engine codes:
http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/showthread.php?t=54033

Hope that helps.

Basically you just put the wires it shows you where it tells you and count how many times the CEL blinks.
That tells you the code, then you check it against the code sheet. At least that is how it works on my 92...

Unless you have a 96 or 97 model, you don't need a cable and software to check the CEL codes. You just ground a diagnostic wire and the ECU will flash the error number for you. Then you look it up in the list.

Your engine is probably running retarded because the ECU has gone into limp mode due to the CEL. Fix the problem that's causing the CEL first before you mess with anything else.

OK. Yhanks b3lha.
My SVX is a '94.
Should I ground any wire in the blue diagnostic connector to see the CEL blinking.
very good recommendation: checking the CEL first. It is exactly what I thought at the begining.
If you could just help me with instructions on how to get the code...

Information on other types of codes can be found by clicking on the SVX Information Warehouse

Once you get there, click on "SVXIpedia" at the top of the page, then click on "Checking Error Codes" (third from the top) and pick another topic.

Hope this helps. Welcome to the network!!

Re: intake air temp signal to the ECU

Inside the car man. To the left of where your left foot sits when you're sitting inside it, there is a carpeted kick panel. It's held on by clips and pops off to reveal the interior fuse box and a mass of wires where you'll find the diagnostic plug. Make 100000% sure you know you've got the right plug before you go cutting any wires.

This is the 20-pin diagnostic plug. The smaller black one is the one that you use to check ECU codes.

Re: intake air temp signal to the ECU

Thank you icingdeath88. that is good!
So, I should insert one of the blue wires on one of the black pins depending on what I want to test, isn't it? after that I should see the CEL or the POWER ligth to read the code why my CEL is on...
The other way is to to get the USB cable and a software and connect it on the blue connector? does this software read codes and turn off the CEL?
Thanks again bro.
