It should go better then when I (we) ripped the tranny out of my XT6 about 4 years ago. It was still attached to the engine. Oil got everywhere. Project got scrapped due to the house needing to be sold and a pissed off mom. Car literally got scrapped, as well as my SVX A/C components that were in the trunk. :/

Hey Nikfu, let me know what shop it was that u took ur car too. I wanna know because im about to get my transmission fixed and I dont wanna be anywhere near these people who messed up your car. Which shop was it? Also since I'm here, do u know of a good trans shop? Dividend is coming in handy this year for me.

Snow on the mountains already.

You two should team up, i'm sure you'd do a better job than that shop.

That shop apparently does not do transmission work. The place is called "A & A The Shop" and the parking lot is full of busted up Legacys. You'll see it right away if you go down Old Seward near Continental Subaru.

A member here called Khalil took his SVX to "Hansen Transmission and Gear" 33k ago and he says it's fine. I've never heard of them. A&A recommended me to Aamco so I dunno if I'd go there. Seriously though, they probably are very good.
When I had mine rebuilt I took it to a place called Affordable Transmission. Don't go there.
There is a place on Dimond Blvd and C, called B & B Automatic. I got a quote from them that was high back then, but they did seem to know about the car, probably why it was high. They have a website, which is a plus. http://www.bbtransmission.com/

If you ever get a manual and mine turns out well I can help you with it, and I just buddied up with some neighbors that rebuild clutches where I work and they are very good, but don't touch autos. They also have aluminum and glass blasting rotisseries that I can use.

Yea I know where B & B transmission is. BTW you said that ur buddies rebuild clutches? That would be a plus since I got a 1992 Supra Turbo that needs a clutch replacement. I havnt changed it out yet because I was told by another supra owner that its not a good winter car due to the heavy front, so thats gonna happen in spring.

I'll give B & B trans a call and see what their quote is. Thanks Nik.

Ok I found a 92 Legacy turbo 5 speed, 163k miles, for $750. Is good, jes?

There's also a 95 Legacy with 144k, for $650, and it's a little closer.
-
Still looking, 96 Legacy with 148k, $120.36?

97 Leg OB, 50k, $600.

98 Leg, 2k, $895.58

98 OB, 75k, $645.58

Hey, if you do decide to do the 5-speed swap to your car. Think I can be there to see how to do it? I can also help too if you want. I usually get afternoons and weekends off so i got lots of time on my hands. Now that im thinking about it again, I might decide to do the 5 speed swap if it doesnt cost too much.

Yeah that's fine. I was gonna ask if you wanted to see anyways. I'm definitely gonna do it. I can see it all coming ogether for under 2k including tools I might need.

There might be a couple nasiocers coming to help with as well.

good to hear you havent lost hope, and have actually creted a new goal.

Bit of peronal advice, Id try to use a tranny with under say...110k on it. Ideally you'd want it as low mileage as reasonably possible

I'm going with the 97 Outback trans as soon as I verify it's cable and not hydro.

I'm seeing if my man down in the States can crate me up a WRX tranny for cheaper. If not, THEN it will be the Outback.

If its going to be under 2k then im so down with it. I dont want to have them rebuild my transmission for 2600 bucks. I rather put a 5 speed in it.

Are you going to be using tom's kit on this project?

Yeah I just Pmed him about it. Settin' it up. If my boy down in wherever can get me a WRX tranny shipped for less than $800 you want to see if I can get you in on one later? You never know though small things might bloat up the cost.

Right now, doing some maffs in my head, 600 for tranny, 200 for driveshaft, 800 for Tom's kit, and then there's some extra things..

I would love a WRX tranny in it. That should be able to hold the stock SVX hp with no faults at all. But isnt the WRX transmission hydraulic? Still it doesnt matter, I just want the svx to be 5-speed in general. I wouldn't mind spending 3 grand on this swap.

1650 + 700 = $2350

Thats what I will have after October 10 if thats when they pay off the dividend. But first i have to see if my dad still wants to sell his car or not because if he does then we wont have enough cars for the winter as I can see if I do end up doing this project, it will take some time from being able to use the car. Supra's clucth is shot and no winter tires as well.

Also another reason why i want the 5 speed WRX transmission is because in the future I may decide to make it into a rear wheel drive.

I honestly don't see it coming to 3 grand. I won't know until Monday how much shipping will be from my friend so that's still up in the air, though.
I plan on buying a small impact set and some extra jackstands if I can't get the clutch guys to lend me their lift. I may even try to convince them to lend a few hands.

If you're gonna stay in AK for a while I wouldn't go RWD. You'll miss out on a lot of winter activity.
