The Brits are down to one now.

Just read in my new Autoweek that TVR has been sold to a 24 year old Russian. That leaves lowly Morgan (the company no one thought would ever last) as the sole British owned automaker. Such a shame, there would be no VW, no BMW, no Mercedes, no Alfa, no Lancia without the British capital after WWII and look what competition got them.

Don't believe everything you read in the papers. MG Rover is the largest British owned car manufacturer. There are a few others around too, admittedly nothing like a couple of decades ago.

It was ford who bought up (and ruined) Jaguar. Doesn't ford also own Land Rover and Aston Martin? I know they own Volvo and Mazda 100% GM is killing SAAB, it won't take long for ford to ruin thier import brands. I fear for Subaru. They should merge with Porsche. Subaru would be the sales volume needed to prevent Porsche from building the four door 911 they proposed. Both are experts in Boxer engine technology. One of the car magazines I get had a what if section, and one of the cars they designed was a mordern day 914 STi, a mid engine 2 seater with the 300 horse STi motor, AWD, and legendary Porsche design. Priced at $40k, they would sell as many as they build. I'd take one over a Z4, TT, SLK, S2000, etc...

I forgot to put in "tradional" in my post. As for MG Rover, I thought their biggest investor was from the European mainland. I knew they bought their independence from BMW when the Mini was stolen but thought it was a bunch of different investors but the majority holder was from another country. Could be wrong as I'm sure Andy knows the Brits a bit better since the last Rover we saw here was the Sterling.
