I'd agree with this more than anything else.... The SRT-4 is meant for going fast in a straight line... everytihng else and it is useless... My opinion is that it is a cheap go fast thing, nothing more... Go for a WRX or a 2.5RS or something... Or better yet, don't get anything that goes fast... Eventually it will catch up with ya if ya

Thanks for your thoughts guys. As of now she is deciding between a new Tiburon GT v6, a new SRT4, a 2001 Eclipse GT (5sp), and a 2001 Honda Prelude (5sp). What do you guys think is the best way to go all around?

Hmmm...I'd say the '01 Ecplise GT. V6 power, good looks and dependable reliability. My 2nd choice would be the Prelude...

I'd pick the Tiburon or the Prelude over the Eclipse. The current gen is a step in the wrong direction.

The new Tiburon's look great (I was in Korea when they were first released - called the 'Tuscani' over there) but the junky door slam and down-market interior turned me off...

I think MotorTrend had a good review of the Tiburon as well. They lapped the Street of Willows race course about 1.5 seconds slower than a Porsche Boxster S!

Call it a POS neon all you want but these things are cleaning up at dragstrips AND autocross courses. They are not just fast in a straight line - they handle as well as the R/T neons with more power to boot.

You have to give some respect to them - no matter how much you hate neons. I hate neons almost as much as I hate saturns, but I have to hand it to them for packing a ton of horsepower into a light car for a low price.

Have any of you driven any of these cars? Ive only driven an eclipse before, but the both of us are planning to drive all of them in the next few days. Im trying not to let my personal bias against american cars get in the way so I want to make sure anything I learn for my gf is based on fact.

Say no to fords all together.
Or, best choice of all, wait two more months for the Chevy Cobalt SS and get a car that will outrun and outhandle the SRT-4, and do all that with a much smoother ride, and an interior that would make you swear you're in an M3. It's got a supercharged 2.0L inline 4 with 205hp/205lb, and nearly 200lbs less fat than the SRT-4, thanks to GM's new modular platform architecture. Only problem is, if your girlfriend likes the neon, she probably won't like the cobalt. It's pretty much the opposite of the neon in styling, yeah it's actually good looking. But all the windows are powered, it's got a wicked stereo (XM if you want), and you can even get leather if you desire.

Tell her to get an SVX... I vote SVX here...

But outta those cars I'd say get the Mitsubishi... The Prelude isn't being made anymore (But always a PLETHRA of parts available for Hondas).
The Tiberon is an ALRIGHT car, but it just doesn't quite do it for me.
Ya already know my stance on the SRT-4
So as much as I don't like the Mitsubishi, I'd say get it...
