Importing A JDM 4WS in US

So who has imported or is importing a Version-L Alcyone SVX 4WS? I found this while doing a search and it appears you can now import a 4WS SVX for Show and Display purposes.

http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/CARS/RULES/...list040109.pdf

I'm betting Earl will finally have a JDM added his fleet.

Re: Importing A JDM 4WS in US

I think you have always been able to import any car into the USA regardless of make, model and year. The legal issues come when you want to plate the cars for legal road use. In over simplifying the rules: It must either be a legal same as USA Federal spec vehicle or more than 25 years of age and thus exempt from all federal laws since its considered a antique. In Canada the age rule is 15 years and thats why you will see many cars show up in Canada 10 years before the US. We have many RHD JDM Mazda RX7's or JDM Toyota Supar's or JDM Nissan Skyline's that are plated legally. In the US they are either not for road us or re-vin'd with an old model year but thats risky.

Regards

Max

So what this seems to mean is that someone has already imported a 4ws svx to the US. I wonder where it is.

Re: Importing A JDM 4WS in US

good luck. I couldnt get any real answers from anyone. Most places I called said talk to someone else, maybe everyone I talked to was having a bad day. The rest of the people I talked to said I cant do it.

From what I gathered though...the least expensive way would be to rent a container with someone...stuff if full of jdm goodness and ship it over. lets start a RHD group buy!

It has not been that easy after 911. Long story.
