I can't take it!

Hi Chris, As an old guy I can't take the tension. I understand how this kind of drag racing works and going to a strange track can mess with your runs. But its the doing, not the winning, although thats always nice, that counts. And I like the attitude that there is always next year to get em. Glad you made the trip. Maybe SVX will mean something to some new people after your performance. Take cars, BOBB

Well, I have to say Congratulations, Chris, you did us proud, and yet I can see you are more than disappointed and you feel possibly you had the winnings in your hand.

Please excuse my ignorance/innocence here; I have always thought drag racing was about the shortest elapsed time over a quarter mile. Is that not the case here? What is the point of applying brakes before the finish line?

Other terminology you use is strange to a novice or newby who has never attended a drag race. What exactly do you do to "dial" up your car before the off? Does it mean you set up parameters on the engine tune, or does it mean you predict a figure you are going to match or beat or something?

I've done my share of bracket racing, and I can say that it sounds easy from the outside. HOWEVER, from the driver's seat it's anything but!

Well it doesn't sound easy to me, I have to say.

From what I see Chris is Mr Consistency. From start to finish you would have to intimately know your car's launch and traction capability, plus be the quickest at reaction time, and all this without breaking red.

Yes, in short its handicapped racing. Its a way to allow us common people to race when the rest of the world know that money=horsepower and ultimately the win. In big buck racing, he with the biggest sponsor and largest wallet will take the majority of the wins. The class of racing I do is wide accepted across the nation and is standardized by NHRA. It still has a mechanics feel to it, cause your car needs to perform the same, time after time. The main determining factor is now back to skill of the driver with experience in knowing what to run/dial, and their reaction time at the light. My reaction times were awesome as 8 years of racing in the same car has allowed me to refine it over and over again. The variable that threw me off was how much I was going to be effected by atmospheric changes. I know the answer to this question at my track, but where I was racing is MUCH different with the car pulling times almost a full second quicker than my home track. Again, since my home track will be the host of the 2008 division finals, I get home team advantage. I was seriously behind the eight ball with very limited experience at sea level tracks. Just about every track in division 6 is less than 1000 feet in altitude.

I have two more races this weekend, one on Friday and the Import closer on Sunday. I will keep all informed on my performance.

Guess what!? Im doing it AGAIN!
I am tied for first place in points for RoC (Race of Champions) and this qualifies me again to run in the NHRA Division 6 Finals... and again at Woodburn, Oregon. Focus goals here is obviously first place will and my entry to the NHRA Summit ET National Finals in Las Vegas.. All support is welcome! I will be departing for travels on Wednesday, August 30th, parking and tech inspection on Thursday, bonus races on Friday the 1st with RoC on Saturday the 2nd and Team Firebird races on Sunday the 3rd. I have been published in NHRA National Dragster THREE times now with my SVX, and we are going all the way this time. I have gone through a bunch of searches and histroy, and it appears as if no one has ever taken a Subaru to the Nationals, so fingers crossed and lets go Team SVX!

Special thanks to Tom Johnson that has put so many hours into this project car and has been a very positive force on making this car again a winning combination.

I did resurrect this thread from the dead, but going forward I will start a new thread. Thought it would be nostalgic history.
