vw diesel engine in an svx?
i was wondering if anyone heard of a diesel vw vanagon wagon direct bolt on for the svx?
i was browsing the new for svx motor pix and came across this site www.vanaru.com they sell svx engines that bolt onto the vanagon and it's direct bolt on no wire splicing i wonder if it's possible to do the reverse and put a vw diesel engine into the svx |

Why, for the love of god, would anybody want to replace a smooth powerful 240bhp H6 with a noisy, smokey, 90bhp 4-cylinder diesel POS engine.

diesel engines are so easy to extract more power out of
i had a 1992 jetta torbo diesel. uped the boost boost gauge. blow off valve and made it so much fun and still got 800-900 KM for 40L of diesel |

(1992 Jetta weight) * 1.5 = (SVX weight)
Looks like you might only have 2/3 the fun?

the vanagon boxer diesel is a steaming pile of isht. if you going to do something crazy like this I would get a TDi engine and use it or sell the svx to someone who can appreciate it and go buy an already "converted" VW

i was just looking at it because it was a direct bolt on.
otherwise i love the svx. but because of fuel prices going up. not so bad now but end of summer looking at $1.40/L looking at alternatives for the engine already have a project this summer for using a power generator (gas or diesel) hooked up to couple of electric motors attached to the stock transmission gonna be trying it out with buddy on his old suby loyale if it all works out going to do it to the svx currently looking at a 1.5 hp engine with over 300lbs torque should be interesting and for something outrageous 300 hp electric motor with god knows how much torque for $6500 LoL Last edited by Octanerush; 04-17-2008 at 12:22 PM. |

You know why they put svx engines in vanagons? Because the engines in vanagons die. They can't overcome the massive lack of aerodynamicness. With a max speed of 50mph, and 3-5min to get there, that's not much fun.

Sube diesel
Just as a note, Subaru is going to do a boxer diesel which will be available in Europe next year. And it's one of the new "common rail" high pressure injection diesels, which don't have the clatter or stink of the diesels (M-B, VW, etc.,) that you're familiar with. But it does have the TORQUE. Diesels have way better torque output than gas engines of the same displacement, plus getting 30% to 50% better fuel mileage. Not too long ago, I drove a Euro-spec BMW 320d, and was wowed. Quiet, smooth, and a boot in the back when accelerating. Hated to give it back. So look for the Sube diesel to be a desirable item, even if, like all the new Subes, it is ugly.

The vanagon diesel is NOT A BOXER, it is a standard Rabbit diesel inline four, laid on it's side. And with a whopping 53 HP, they're even more gutless than the standard water cooled Vanagons (91 HP for the 1.9, 98 for the 2.1)
