"Excuse me, Did you do that to your car?"

True story from yesterday.

As I was getting off the freeway, all windows down, radio off, just enjoying the fine noises my car makes (ok some of them are not fine...I'm just trying to figure them out) a silver turbo beetle pulls up beside me. The woman rolls down her window and asks me

"Excuse me, Did you do that to your car? The windows I mean?"

I stopped myself from laughing and told her that all SVXes had windows like that. She thanked me and rolled up her window and the light turned green.

Then I started laughing. I always thought it would be funny to trick out my bud's 86 Honda Civic with the dual-panes. I wouldn't want to do or pay for that job.

Personally, I would have responded with "Yup, I did. Why don't you come over and check out how I customized the back seat?"

But that's me. I've already been labeled a dirty old man.

Remember the conversation we had at breakfast about the waitress taking her shirt off?

And rightfully so! Have you started your "weather stripping" installation business yet?

Business???

I never mix business with pleasure. Weatherstripping is a pleasure to "handle" and one should not try to profit from it.

Wink vive' espada!

I had the same thing happen to me about 5 time when i used to live in mass.

One time a middle aged gent and his wife (i assume) pulled up next to me at a light and asked what was up with the windows and what kind of car it was. I, in a mischievous mood, decided to tell him it was lamborgini's latest attempt four passenger exotic.(in the spirit of the espada) He replied, nice! and kept on going. (he was driving a buick).

It may have been mean; however it gave me great amusement

Weatherstripping?

Um, did I get on the wrong bus again? Please tell me I don't want to know what's up with the weatherstripping.

Funny. Almost the exact same thing happened to me just yesterday. I'm in Calgary right now. I lived here for over 20 years, and saw 2 SVX's. Both of which were on the Subaru lot my friend worked at, not once driving. Since taking my car here I can't get over the looks I have been getting. The best being from teen guys (just 16...barely) driving down the highway. They were beside me, and one guy had his mouth wide open staring. Then the passender in the front seat did the classic mouthing of "What the f*ck is that???". I started laughing, as did the other people in my car. So I decided to really mess him up...and rolled down the rear window.

That was the funniest look I have ever seen on a person in months. They decided to chase me down for 15 minutes until I stopped so they could check it out.

Just my luck

Soon after I bought my SVX, I went through a McDonalds drive thru near Beckley. As I drove up to the pay window (my window was still up) I noticed the girl had this EXPRESSION on her face! I turned to my wife and said something to the effect that here came another..."What kind of car is that?" or "What's with the windows?" So I ran the window down....

"Cool SVX! A '92 right?.....they didn't have wings. How's the bearings holding up? Mom replaced a lot of them before she sold hers!"

No comment... Don
