Question Custom tail light treatment?

I was poking around on eBay when I found a spoiler for sale that was currently attached to a pearlie with unusual taillight treatment. Has anyone seen this before as some unusual option or is it a custom one-off job? What is your opinion of said tail light treatment?

Ugly as sin. The SVXs design is composed entirely of angles. The only place hte SVX is ROUND is the actual wheel (duh). Yeah yeah, there are a lot of round moving parts in the engine, but all in all, the SVX is car whose design is completely devoid of any circles.

Hence my reasoning for thinking that taillight treatment is incredibly freaking stupid, and my wanting a gun to use against myself for having seen such a monstrosity.

What about the exhaust tips? They are oval, like those tail lights.

P.S. Not trying to defend the guy who did that horriible thing.

i don't see the svx as being an angular car at all.. i mean, yeah it's all angles when you really break it down, but i see the svx as being a much "swoopier" and curvier car than most.. when i think of an angular car i think.......... lambroghini countach, lotus esprit, honda element.....

i'm going to catch hell for this, but i actually think the taillight mod looks halfway decent..

yes, there are some OVALS in the SVX design. The exhaust tip, the rear of the taillights, etc. But where are the circles? NO WHERE.

That looks like utter ****. It'd be like taking an extremly swoopy car... like a Lotus Elise... and making ugly SQUARE 80s taillights.

I disagree, and think you're nuts. Look at the car from the side. Heck, I'll get a pic for you, so we can look at the same angles from the same angle.

http://www.subaru-svx.net/photos/fil...95SVX/5800.JPG

Alright. First, note the line that extends from the headlight, goes to the side view mirror, and there, the same line continues all the way to the rear of the car without any curve whatsoever. True, it made a small curve on the front half of hte car, but it isn't swoopy by any means. Now the belt line or whatever of the car, it extends around the front bumper, straight down the side of the doors (where the body cladding attachs) and continues on the rear bumper. No curves whatsoever.

True, the rear wheel well is 'flared', and gives it a muscular appearnce, but it isn't curvy or swoopy.

Also notice the complete lack of circles anywhere in this car.

I'm extremely anal about the 'design' of cars... the SVX has good thing going, and I'm not going to say circular taillights are bad, but it does NOT match the character and design principles of the SVX at all. A few other cars I hate, purely because of design flaws: Most lotuses... they used the wrong kind of side view mirrors, way too many unnecessary body lines, etc. The new Chevy Monte Carlo... no design 'carried through'. The side of the car looks like it was designed by a different guy who did the back and another guy did the front. No universal theme at all with that car, which just makes the whole car look somewhat confused at what it's trying to be. I could go on and on, but I think I've made my point already.

That's the beltline.

That's a cutline.

I'd like to see that car in person, to see how it really looks. Pix can be deceiving.

heehee

well, i can assure you that although i might get a little weird sometimes, i'm not nuts..

i think that you and i just see the car in different ways.. i took the picture you posted and ran it through illustrator to highlight some of the more visible curves in that view.. there are even more curves apparent from a top and front view..

when i think of an "angular" car, i think of one of these:

http://www2.msstate.edu/~sgn1/MR2/images/mr22.jpg

or one of these:

http://members.tripod.com/Matt_Birchard/subxt/xt.htm

or something like this:

http://www.carad.com/photo_manager2/...272003153802-5

still, i think that i can see how you would see angles in the svx.. i guess it's just two different trains of thought
