o/t Tonights the night, will the brat start or...

I've almost completed my 2 1/2 month journey to put a newly aquired used 100k engine into my Brat. I have to put in the battery and hook up the exhaust and heater hoses and then... well I'll either be drinking in celebration or well drinking myself to an unhappy stupor. Any words of wisdom for me should the sparkplugs fail to ignite. How about where the two spare bolts go???

Make sure you "burp" all the air out of the water system, or it'll get an air pocket and run hot, till it gets worked out.

My fingers are crossed for you!

the engine's connected to my wristwatch....uh oh

Well...

The good news is she started right up. Loud as hell since I didn't attach the Y pipe but she runs! The bad news is she sprung a leak in one of the heater hoses. I can't get to the darn thing either. Spent nearly 2 hours trying. Should've replaced them when I had the engine on the floor but they looked fine then. You boys may be right. Those bolts might hold the tranny to the engine. Have'nt made it that far yet.

You didn't change that hose when you had it apart? How much do you hate yourself now? Good to hear it runs thoe, got to keep the BRATs alive too. Just as rare as SVX's now.

BAJA's don't have FunRoof's or rear jump seats.

Now why would I want to go to that added expense? The hose is $13 for a 4 inch piece of rubber. Its just where do you stop when putting in a 20 year old engine? Actually I see many more SVXs than Brats and the value of Brats seems to actually be climbing. There are 2 on Autotrader now for over $5k.

Thumbs up BRAT

I bet you wish you had changed that $13 hose now....

My BRAT was my first Subaru. I had a used car lot in Texas at one time, somehow ended up with a Suby BRAT. This was in 1990. I had bought a shack in Colorado , and had noticed how many old Subys were here (BRATS, DL, GL etc) figured they knew something I didn't....anyway, ended up liquidating my car lot to buy more Co. real estate....loaded up the BRAT with things for my shack, and headed for Colorado. It was a sight to see....stove, toilet, tools, bed, tons of other junk....even had a ski rack with 2pr of skis, in August, about 150 degree Texas heat . ( I think I have a pic somewhere...)

Still have have it. It's a little mountain goat. Drive it a couple of times a week. It draws more attention than my SVX.

There are not many left. Most are pretty beat up. If you have a good one they, are worth some bucks.
I'm glad you saved yours from the crusher!
