Top speed travels

Neat question!!

Its a little like" are you a great lover" EVERY guy will say the obvious...

regarding top speed, I've had two neat events in road cars
1) 150 mph at 7500 in 67 vette with a 500bhp Traco engine

2) 155 mph in my first Stealth Twin turbo. It was an absolute breeze, safe, fast, no problems at all...

Andy, great coincidence.

The guy who did my bearing and cam belt recently has one. Real neat. Hardly a mark on it, except for a few spots of drool. He loves it, keeps it pristine.

I only got to 145 on my VFR 750. Did 130 in the R5 Turbo. Incidentally, I always used fully synthetic with the turbo. The turbocharger heat killed the oil very quickly. I found if you wanted to do high speed runs, you could lose as much as 5 mph with fresh oil. The new oil was more viscous. However, it thinned out a lot after 4-5 thousand miles. Naturally, if you kept thrashing it with worn out oil you run the risk of bearing damage or worse. But 5 mph is not to be sneezed at

Ahh.....I bet your's was a much newer model than mine, as mine was a 1974 Fomula 400 4 barrell. 4-Speed, Ram air induction(last year for ram air till the late 90's when they brought it back), and at 144 it was floating all over the road wouldn't stick to the ground like the newer cars(heck 225/15-70's didn't exactly put much rubber on the ground at any speed )

Oh.......for my younger, more stupid days

Johnny, mine was the R5 GT Turbo. It was the front wheel drive model, 1987, with a 120 hp engine. There was another R5 Turbo, which was mid-engined. Very nice car, but hairy at the limit, tended to spin if you were trying hard.

The p/w ratio of the one I had was pretty good at 160, it only weighed a little over 800 kgs. 0-60 in the low 7s, but the nicest thing about it was the brakes. Stupendous. Great stoppers, 195 section rubber on a small light car, with disks front and rear. Real good grippy seats too. I do miss it a lot.

It was so quick around back roads I had to slow down to stay alive. I kept meeting people head on, who did not know I was there, because I was coming out of the bends so quick as they were approaching them. Also nearly ran into the back of a van at 120+ on a dual carriageway. He pulled out to overtake like he did not know I was coming.

I drive more calmly in the SVX

Picture of a black one like it in my locker.

Yep. Mine was a 90 Formula w/ 5spd, K&N, flowmaster, hypertec chip, mallory ignition. It was still pulling but I had to back off for traffic.

There is (almost) no substitute for brute force!

No replacement for displacement, woo woo! Now if only we had a turbo like the WRX so we could destroy em.

You couldn't even pronounce the word finesse while sitting in that car. Mighta had something to do with the tooth-jarring suspension. It sure would haul ass though!

speed....

Turned Eldora (high banked half mile) at a 140 mile per hour average........figures up to around 165 down the straights. Fastest I've ever gone in a street car was 149 in my ole Camaro. Blew the motor up about a week later.....guess they always do run better right before they blow

Hi Kusi

Just checked your pics in the locker. Nice car!

All Japanese cars in '92 had Black over Claret, yours seems to be full Claret.

Was that done specially for continental/Swiss market, or did you or a previous owner have the roof/bootlid sprayed up to body colour??

Joe

Cool

I was one of 3 passengers in a '56 Buick that was floorboarded for about 5 minutes until the horizontal speedo needle went beyond 120. Not that it was accurate, but with four teenagers, two 6-packs, & four mostly bald tires, I'd say it was the '50s equivolent of an SVX doin' 175 on the Jersey Turnpike.

80 somthing in the SVX, what can i say i am a good boy, and i dont need any tickets, and you see WV roads and there is another reason. Fastest i have done would be around 108 in my '87 Nissan NX. I know both can go alot better just i am safe and dont need to be going 140mph to be having fun, ill race one of you guys up 41 near here, way more fun than 140 on a strait.

Exclamation Wish I had a G-Tech

My blue 94 Ls-I that I sold to Porter I ad pegged while my girlfriend was taking pictures. Unfortunately I ran out of film at 145 or 140. I do not recall. I do have the pics. No scanner. But I can make a copy and mail it to whomever. I'll only make one and we can make it a chain picture. I believe that Porter and MotorsportSVX (Dayle) have seen it.
