The Network doesn't want me.

Last night the network site did not recognize me as a member on my home computer. It did recognize me yesterday during halftime, but after supper it thought I was not a member. After I read & answered the posts at halftime, I shut off the computer. When I logged in after supper it thought I was not a member.

This morning the network recognized me on my work computer.

I will re-register onto the network tonight at home since I had my password at work and am bringing it home tonight.

To date, I have had more problems with the electronics of this network site than on either of my 2 SVXes.
I changed the battery in the 92 SVX keyfob Saturday.
Maybe that caused Network to disregard me as a member on my home computer. Maybe I should put my home computer uo to my forehead when logging on this site.

Wish me luck tonight. If I don't post tonight, you all will know that there is some kind of bug on my home computer.

Larry,

Check your system for viruses. I reccomend an occasional online scan to catch any virus that may have disabled the anti-virus installed on your machine. Click here http://housecall.trendmicro.com/hous...start_corp.asp
and let it check your system. These nagging, unexplainable problems are often the by-products of viri.

Good Luck

Doug

I'm Back

After a few missteps I was able to log in.
So now you are stuck with me again.

Doug,

My virus check comes on once per week on wednesdays. Do you think I should change it to more than once per week?

Well, that's depends on your comfort level. Personally, my computer at home checks for virus updates every day at 4:45 AM then at 5:00 AM it does a full system scan. That way when I get up at 6 and go read my Email, its up to date before I open anything. I also check with an online scanner about once a month or whenever I get bored.

If you have a permanent connection (cable modem, DSL, etc) I recommend leaving your computer on and having it check for updates and scan your system daily. It uses so little electricity if you have power management set correctly.

Oh, and if you do have a permanent connection, buy and install personal firewall software. The "Built in" firewall of Windows XP is less than adequate. For most people, a product such as Norton Internet Security 2003 for about $70 will cover most* situations.

*No product can prevent all attacks.

Did you do the online scan? Did it find anything?

Doug

Thanks Doug,

My home computer that I use to access this site & the Network is a laptop and is on our phone line so I disconnect it when not in use.

There was no virus found and everything works fine now. I have norton anti-virus software on it. The software has automatic downloading of the latest anti-virus programs.

Computers and I don't always get along.
