Significant Technical Input
They're threaded onto the end of the rack. The large barrel at the end of the rack is the tie rod joint and it attaches to the rack by threads. I haven't done, or don't remember doing, inners on an SVX but typically there's a washer between the end and the rack, folded over to act as a safety lock. It's not very strong so don't worry about unfolding it. You'll need an inner tie rod socket (recommended) or a large wrench, channellock pliers, etc. to undo the end. Safe and recommended practice is to use a crescent wrench across the teeth of the rack to absorb the counter-torque when loosening - allowing the pinion to bear the load is a no-no (although most mechanics do it that way - they have a better 'feeling' for how much torque stuff can take before breaking. It comes from many years of breaking stuff ... )
