I bet you live in a college town. At UCLA, parking is so tight, I've caught people parallel, but stopping when they nudge the other persons bumper.

I parked my precious svx in my apartments underground garage most of the time, and guess what, my roomate left those nice imprints too.

**** happens, and if you agonize over ever little dent thats done, your not gonna be a happy svx owner.

My bumpers are absolutely trashed from people 'banging' their way into parallel parking spaces, and i have more door dings than I could count... I dont let it get to me. It just makes it so i dont feel as badn when i hit a pole while parking or back into a building. I do have a rather laid back attitude though... which, obviously, you dont.

This will accomplish alot. It's sort of like an episode of COPS in text. I can already visualize the scene.

Next time do as adults do. Take down the info, try to contact the driver while you are there. DO NOT escalate the situation and then, if all else fails, take legal action. What you did and what you are inferring is ILlegal action and will end you up in more trouble than the person)s) who hit the car.

Oh, and posting it could certainly help lead to who set a truck on fire.

The fact is, people don't respect nice cars. I've gotten more dings and dents in my svx in the year I've owned it than my 15 year old previous car got in it's entire exixtence. Last week, I had my car parked on a residential street neer the college campus. I noticed a nice ding in the front where, most likely, some Boulderite college idiot hit it with a ball while playing catch on the street. There's no excuse for it. It's not hard to use a little bit of caution when opening your door or pulling out of a parallel parking spot.

Just my two cents.....

I'm on my second SVX and due to the tragic loss of the first one, so I'm very protective of 'belle. Therefore, and not everyone can afford to do so, I purchased a beater. The Loyale gets the brunt of whatever nature and careless people dish out. I drive 'belle on nice days and even then I'm sure to park nowhere near anyone else. On those occasions where that's not possible, I park it where I have to.

The thing you need to remember here is that while yes the SVX is one awsome car, IT IS ONLY A CAR. You can't take it with you when you die, and you can't always be around to prevent something or someone one from causing damage to it( be it intentional or otherwise). The first few weeks I owned her I was constantly inspecting her for damage before I left work and all that good stuff. I don't do that anymore. I figure what's going to happen will happen. Or, think about it this way...you can go to the gym every day and be as healthy & strong as a horse, but if you get hit by a bus en route to cleveland tomorrow you're still dead healthy or not.....(my logic for not going to the gym)

The moral here in case no one has figured it out is Don't fret over things that are out of your control. Life's too short.

You may be grown up. but you you have to learn that by retaliating in the manner that you did; you have sunk to the truck driver's level. You basically did to him what he did to you.
When you are older you will find that there are better ways to get even. Some can even be more satisfying than what you did.

Larry III

Easy for you to say, Larry. Not everyone has a cousin Vito on retainer to "encourage" better behavior from those "morons" who do nasties on your pearlie.

The real problem here is auto-dom's neglect to provide at least a half-fast effort to provide a protective barrier around today's "bumpers" & doors. One thing my old '87 Chrysler had was a raised 2 inch rubberized strip all around the dingable areas of the car, & granted there's always the wind that will catch that Hummer's door in a Wal-mart parking lot & bash it into an unprotected spot somewhere; but by parking that old car in mostly remote spots, I didn't pick one noticable ding-dong in over 5 years.

Ron.
