Power Steering RAD

Hey guys, just wanted to share a small mod I have done two months ago.
The roads over here are mainly uphills. Each time I get home, I see power steering fluid dripping underneath the car. I open the hood and there it is, fluid pouring from the cap.

Bought a new cap from Subaru, same thing happening, no change. I started thinking about boiling oil causing this. So I replaced the DEX3 type oil with DEX 6 type since it can withstand heat better. Now my oil surge was much less than before, so I am sure it is a boiling oil thing.

Went to a local "Japanese Cars" breaking yard and picked a P/S cooler out of a Honda CRV. The difference with ours is that it comes with cooling fins.

Here is the SVX Cooler (Lower left):

And here is the Honda Cooler:

Yes it took some tinkering and custom fitment, but NO MORE fluid pouring out of the cap. A $10 mod

Re: Power Steering RAD

Good one. The SVX cooler is a bit of a joke.

Yup indeed. Dunno why Subaru even bothered putting this metal hose there, does nothing for cooling.

Re: Power Steering RAD

They sure do leak though after 22 years of salt and heat.

Re: Power Steering RAD

Well mine never leaked, just didn't cool the system.

What year was the CRV (if you recall)?
