Coolant loss.. ??

I just had enough "coolant loss" to get air bubble .. and overheat.. ? (107 deg in Fresno)

Temp went up .. and AC stopped working.. .

Has worked fine one day after refill (was down ~ 1/2 gal+ after "boil over" .. .

Oil looks good .. no milk .. ?

How often.. and how shud coolant change and/or flush be done.. ??

Re: Coolant loss.. ??

The only time I ever had that happen to me was when the radiator cracked.

Did the "coolant loss" go in the reservoir and overflow, and... how long since you checked the coolant level in the radiator and the reservoir?
I would also make sure both... the two fans, are coming on correctly.

Good luck.

Re: Coolant loss.. ??

and... look for small drips under the car... especially where the water pump is located.

Re: Coolant loss.. ??

James,
I don't see an answer to Keith's inquiry regarding both fans coming on and working correctly? This was the cause of an insistent overheat condition last summer on my '97, and was found to be caused by a blown fuse for the A/C controlled fan. The car ran HOT, and the A/C was intermittently blowing hot then cold, with ambient temp over 106. Actually, I have yet to solve the problem, but avoid it by refraining from leaving the climate control on Cool, causing the fan fuse to blow when ignition is turned "On". I've duplicated this "condition", repeatedly blowing the fuse deliberately, and suspect it's a problem with one of the A/C relays. If the car is started, then climate control switched to A/C, everything works correctly.

Anyways, check your fans.

Glenn

Re: Coolant loss.. ??

Think fans were both on.. . but works fine now.. I topped off, got a new cap (old one probably OK), and then Flushed/Changed coolant Sunday. Not quite as hot now .. but still ~95 thru Monday (yesterday and today, like 78 deg and rain.. Ha!).. .

I'll keep an eye on my fans for sure.. if A/C drops.. or Temp raises!

Thanks!

P.S. Don't know what position "Cool" is on climate control.. ??? But.. I DO know climate control mechanism is VEEEEERY CoMpLiCaTeD! [I got the manual!] I'm so glad mine works.. .

P.P.S. Hello, fellow California DeSeRt RaT! Enjojin' da HEET?
