Previous Owner Abuse

Found out a few weeks ago that Izzy doesn't have O2 sensors installed; didn't have the extra cash at the time so I took her to a local exhaust shop today in hopes to get them put in and regain some MPG (14mpg is not to my liking).

When they put her on the rack, they called me back. Turns out the previous owner or the dealer I bought it from, had work done that resulted in the pipes being welded directly to the flange of the manifold. Even one of the bolts were melted!! The whole exhaust needs replaced but I cant justify doing that when I need new rotors and pads, struts front and rear, and I need to replace the flexplate (it's ticking). Izzy is turning out to be quite the money pit.

...yet strangely enough I don't want to let her go

Re: Previous Owner Abuse

I hear ya man. I am in the same spot. I bought mine needing a water pump. So i had the pump and timing belt done and found out it had a fuel leak and bad ball joint fixed the leak waiting on a ball joint and now the brakes wont bleed. My exhaust also is welded EVERYWHERE. I wish people would just take care of cars like i do and then everyone would have nice cars that would last forever. These youguns these days just dont care and treat their cars like dumpsters. Good luck man.

Not all younguns treat their car like dirt. (24 yo here, owned mine for 5+ years)

Manifolds are easily attainable used from many members parting out cars/spare motors.

Most of these cars which are purchased recently require significant work. Many people who make the purchase of a 15-19 yo luxury car fail to understand the implications of purchasing it and the abuse/mistreatment that runs rampant in that category and with these cars, often being offered at $1000-$3000 but requiring $1000-$3000 (at least) of work to be safe/reliable.

The SVX is worth it though, IMHO

I actually bought the car knowing that it would take another 2500+ to get it back in decent shape. I'm just frustrated that someone would do such a horrible hack job on the poor car. It makes me angry

Someone's failed attempt at being a mechanic and saving money.
