Manual trans. into a 2wd?

Is it possible to drop a manual tranny into a 2wd SVX without converting it to AWD? Did Subaru make any decent trannys that would allow this before they gave up on non-AWD cars?

There were some fwd imprezza 5 spds and a few others I believe. If you don't abuse it, it can last.

Early FWD Imp's are going to have a different spline count on the axle stubs, so I would avoid them. FWD Leg's were available through '96.
