2003 West of the Rockies SVX meet!

OK, I have had enough! Things that were bugging me just keep piling up! So I have decided to do something about it. Things that bug me:
· Being the administrator and not meeting a single member yet
· Being the ONLY Subaru at the track let alone being an SVX
· Not getting to experience the joys of an SVX meet
So this is my proposal. As most of you know, I race my SVX (third season now) at the local track. I run in the Club Challenge and the Import Survival Series. This year the management of our local track organized one of the six import races to be a big one. This was an experiment to see if they should do it annually. Well the results were wonderful and the turn out was huge. We had entries from all over the western US. Events included a swimsuit competition, show and shine awards, audio wars, and a break out into three classes of import bracket racing (Honda/Acura Cup, Anything Volkswagen, and the All Sport {anything else} Cup). As most of you heard, I took a 3rd place finish behind a Lexus and our backend administrator, Jim Waldon, with his Eagle Talon. Now I know most of you don’t have any interest in racing your SVX, but it’s a good opportunity for a meet and if you want to show it, race it, or what ever you can. The weather was wonderful with mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the 87-degree area. So, I am going to do what I said I wouldn’t and organize a West of the Rockies SVX meet for 2003. By all means everyone is invited, but I know for most that a long trek is out of the question. If I can just get 25 or so cars, all the people at the track will get goofy. Right now the date is up in the air, but it will be around this time next year. Once the track has chosen a date, I will post it here. So, its starts now! One year to get ready and put in for time off (once I get the date from the track). If any of you are interested, I made it into the write up at on the track newsletter. See below.

My SVX should be running by then so count me in, or as soon as I get my transmission fixed I will be willing to drive just about anywhere on the West side for a meet. I am now deeply pondering doing a 5 speed (thanks to Huck and everyone else making this dream such a reality) instead of kicking out $3000 for a reman auto. Anyway back to lurking in the shadows.........Darren out

I have a meeting scheduled with the management of Firebird Raceway in a few weeks. They are going to help make this happen. They are really as excited about this as I am. There are ideas for trophies, drive tours, etc.....
After the meeting, I will open a new forum for all related material. Shorlty before the meeting I will have a sign-up sheet so I can show the management a rough number of cars and people that are interested in attending. This would not be a 100 percent commitment, just an idea.

Chris,

We hear you and your gripes. Here's an idea. There was talk in Lafayette of holding a 13th Anniv. SVX Meet in 2005. Let's all make it in Chris's back yard and we can call it the "SVX World Network Server Meeting. " After Lafayette, we just want a place that's cool and has nice weather, preferably 70-75 F and bright and sunny. We could also meet by Michelles house and call it the "Copper Mountain SVX Meeting".

Think about it people. It's only 2 3/4 years away.

Waiting to hear from some of our "more active" members in the Midwest and other such areas to the east. Something to endorse this as THE 2003 meet to be seen at.

Certainly us folks to the far west got enough "encouragement" to make the long drive to Lafayette, time to see if it works both ways...
