Here are the pics, what do you guys think? Will it be good on our SVXi?

oh look added weight!

I doubt that stuff would last...once the sun hits it, the corners and crap will start to peel from warping.

+1

Shrinkage! and everywhere you cut that stuff to make if fit just right you will damage your paint.
3 years later all of those scratches in the paint will start rusting.

This is 3M. So it is quality.

Vinyl doesn't get affected by sun. Maybe after 10 years, yes. But before that I doubt it.

BTW, the sqfoot of this vinyl costs $65. I don't think you will get sh!t for vinyl at $65.

Michael might have a point while using the cutter and scratching the paint. At this stage what interests me in this is the looks on the SVX.

In order for it to be "quality" vinyl then it must be pretty hefty material... So like SomethingElse stated, adding weight (and in the worst possible place - the roof)

Nothing says rice like putting fake CF on your car when you're too cheap to buy the real thing.

Re: Carbon Fibre Vinyl Instead of Black Top/Trunk

Over at SAAB Central, someone posted about using the satin finished carbon fiber vinyl with photos. This looks tastefully done and improves on the original factory finishes. However, I can't see any place it could be used on the interior of the SVX and look correct.

That would be the only excuse. I think it looks ok, if you look for that modded german (I think) SVX with the gray roof it should give you a good idea of what it would look like.

I tried it years ago to cover the woodgrain, it is very difficult to do. The recessed line down the middle has a very short gap and the vinyl doesn't conform easily. Climate control illumination is also a problem. Upon completion it seemed a little too stand-outish for my taste.

Re: Carbon Fibre Vinyl Instead of Black Top/Trunk

That CF vinyl would probably last longer and look better than the flaking clear coat on the roof of my SVX...

But I'd rather just have the paint re-done correctly.

Re: Carbon Fibre Vinyl Instead of Black Top/Trunk

I've always hated the look of raw carbon fiber body panels. It makes it look like the car is unfinished, like the owner was too broke to get the parts painted. Raw carbon fiber looks nice as an accent though, when worked into a paint scheme, but whole raw panels just look tacky.

Re: Carbon Fibre Vinyl Instead of Black Top/Trunk

why add weight... for a carbon fiber look?? personally I agree with the statement above I think raw carbon fiber panels look tachy. why not actually get a real carbon fiber trunk made for us I'm sure there would be people interested in a real carbon fiber trunk
