The supply for the relay is best obtained by making a connection at the main starter terminal, which is connected direct to the battery. Otherwise an extra wire, not protected by a fuse will have been introduced.

Do you happen to have the part number of this relay? Do Autozone or Advanced autoparts carry it?

I plan to employ this setup for my Ebony during my inspection and replacement of any deteriorated wiring. I also will install it on Jon's Laguna before we take the car on any trips this summer.
I did experience a similar start issue with my Claret, but when I was checking wiring during the engine swap I found a crimp in the battery cable. Once I replaced these wires, I no longer had the problem. I will most likely install the relay anyway once I redo my alternator wiring.

Any fuse fitted should be as close as possible to the battery end of the wire. I note from where this strange specification originated. Perhaps it was assumed that the relay draws 30 amps.

That was a problem that some found, when they used a relay that had a high resistance winding that could be energized by the Cruise Control Deactivation circuit that uses the starter solenoid to turn off the Cruise when P or N is selected.
As long as the type of relay is a 30 amp and has a armature winding resistance, of about 100 Ohms or less, you will not have a problem. Harvey.

It's staggering how awesome it feels to be able to turn the key one time and have the engine turn... every time. This should surely be on the <$100 Mod List, possibly one of the first things that should be done to a newly-bought SVX, and likely a kit-worthy project, if proper wiring can be agreed to.
I put my relay on the cruise control bracket as shown elsewhere, but I grounded it to the bolt that holds it in place. The multitester showed the mounting threads and the battery ground to have practically no resistance, and it works fine. No more snickering for my Subaru comrades around town!
