Autocrossed on Sunday

6 speed helped a lot, but the car still feels much too heavy, although the 17 year old stock suspension has a lot to do with that.

Finished in the middle of the pack

Damn... I've been torn on whether I should leave my spoiler on or take it off, but that pic really shows the beauty of the clean no spoiler look on an Ebony. Might have to try that out, though I really need a paint job to get to that caliber.

Re: Autocrossed on Sunday

I've done very well in the past autocrossing my stock SVX. I could get the rear to rotate nicely when I needed it to, and I had ample power, just kept it in first gear most all of the time.

I'm used to driving a fairly taut 98 impreza, so its a significant change for me, lol

I have a '00 Impreza RS that I usually autocross, but the SVX is fun too!

Re: Autocrossed on Sunday

Maybe you're in a class that makes you keep the stock tire size, but if you want, you can fit 245/45R16's on that RX-7 rim. I have some on mine and had no problems.

Looks like fun though. Good action shot!

Re: Autocrossed on Sunday

How does one autox this car with an Auto trans? (not a question to the OP since I saw yours was swapped) Do you just swith it to manual mode, or let the trans do what it wants?

My SVX is one of the few auto trans cars I've ever driven. I have a hard time imagining autocrossing with it's weird shift points.

I autocrossed mine last year before I swapped, and it was bloody awful. Maybe my trans is just worn, but all I was doing was spinning front tires when I was trying to power out of corners.

I put it in 2 and left it there.

Oh absolutely, but the RS definitely was a lot more agile (800lbs is a lot to try to hide ). Conversely, the SVX is infinitely more comfortable to do long hauls in.

Boy howdy.

Your car looks damn fine, though.

We had an SCCA rally up here last weekend but once I saw that it was dirt I chickened out.

Re: Autocrossed on Sunday

when i autocrossed mine it was auto i found putting it in (D) it would down shift faster VS (2). i did get better times in (D) ... but if you doo put a tranny cooler cus after taking mine once it wouldn't shift above (2) after a kick down shift pass on the freeway, i let it sit for awhile running into the wind then it was fine. i sold it after that lol
