Just found 1992 SVX w/37k 1 owner miles, what's it worth?

I just bought a 1992 SVX LS-L from an estate. It is a one owner car finished in liquid silver/black top/Charcoal leather with the Touring Package. It has 37k original miles. The car is 100% original right down to the tires (scary!).

In terms of condition here is an overview:

Exterior: All original paint, never been hit, no accidents. Paint is overall very nice but the front and rear bumpers have been scuffed, respraying the corners would make the exterior like new. No other dings, some minor scratches, almost no rock chips. Original wheels are perfect, tires need to be changed as they are original! Car is from a high desert area so no rust or salt exposure.

Interior- Almost like new, original mats, some slight wear on drivers seat, wood trim slightly scuffed on console (boy is this ugly trim from the factory!) No smokers, pets, kids, etc.

Systems- EVERYTHING works correctly, AC, power equipment, gauges, stereo, no warning lights.

Mechanical- Runs and drives really well. No leaks. Near as I can tell no major issues ever. Talked to selling and servicing dealer, no history of major repairs and problems. No records as the estate is still being settled, so I would have to assume for safety's sake that it needs a full 60k service with timing belt.

Misc- Have the original purchase order, all books, both sets of keys and remotes, all the tools, even the instruction VHS.

So two questions: What do people on this board think this car is worth (it will be for sale at some point) ?

Should I sell it as is or do the following items: Respray front and rear bumpers, new tires, full 60k service?

Thanks for the advice!

Id say to check kbb.com and input the stats. Its great to have that low of mileage but you also have to consider the fluids may be extremely old and ALL may need to be changed for road-worthiness. Same goes for the hoses under the hood.... age must be considered along with mileage in any case. Hope you get it though!

Re: Just found 1992 SVX w/37k 1 owner miles, what's it worth?

Between this and the Laguna Blue 94 on ebay today, I had no idea there were such prime examples of this car around yet.

60 or 90 thousand miles is one thing, but less than forty, on two different cars that are more than 15 model years old... Are these things really that collectible? I thought they were a little more cult-following oriented than that, not that people bought them new and have kept them pristine for almost 20 years.

I am glad there are such examples.

And when one mentions "charcoal" interior... is that the medium grey that other SVXs have, or is that darker? My Legacy supposedly has a "charcoal" interior, and for all intents and purposes, it is black, not grey. I've wondered what an SVX would look like with a very dark interior.

Anyway, good luck to the original poster, sounds like a car that is well worth some anti-aging maintenance.

It would be worth between $8,000 and $9,000.

AHH! kbb.com is NOT an accurate representation of a car's value in the real world. The only way to judge a car's value is to look at actual sales. Follow the blue 94 on ebay. This will lead you to a low mileage svx's value.

Re: Just found 1992 SVX w/37k 1 owner miles, what's it worth?

Change those tires ASAP.

Tires with 17 years on them probably have a lot of dry-rot issues and cracking of the rubber. Heat and continued flexing of the rubber can only cause problems.

I ran into a similar problem when I found a 1995 for wawazat!! with the same mileage. Car was pristine, and the original tires had a lot of tread left on them, but were dried out.

There is only one shade of gray leather in US models. You have to look at JDM and other foreign country models to see different shades.

Re: Just found 1992 SVX w/37k 1 owner miles, what's it worth?

Thanks everyone for your input. So my other question is since I plan on reselling the car should I do the following repairs or should I just discount the price and let the next owner decide what they want to do? Here are the repairs I thought should be done:

1. 4 new tires
2. Full 60k Service- Timing Belt/waterpump, flush coolant, trans fluid, brake fluid, ps steering fluid, oil and filter, air filter, plugs.
3. Have the front and rear bumpers repainted.

If I did all that the car would be about as nice as a 92' could be so I am tempted to do it all but I also recognize it will probably go to an enthusiat who might want to do it themselves. Thoughts?

If I had the money to buy that car I'd just want it as-is. I doubt you'll increase the value enough to regain your cost by having the service done. I definitely wouldn't want any paint done.
Neat find!

Prediction: Earl adds it to his collection
