S/C in the SVX....Why are they selling?

I am currently looking into getting a S/C for the SVX. Never going to track, or Auto-X, I just want an easy weekend driver with zip. But if more power is to be had, I would love it (provided it doesnt take away from the streetability of the car)

I am a bit unnerved though. There were very few people who actually purchased and installed a S/C in their SVX. Going back in searchs, I see quite a few of them have also sold them, or are attempted to sell them. Go percentage wise, and it would look REALLY bad.

Why?

Often the answer is 'I want to take the car in a different direction'
When everyone says 'its not you, its me'...it just doesnt look good.

Whats wrong with the S/C?

Re: S/C in the SVX....Why are they selling?

I was selling mine to pay bills. I tried selling the whole car but noone wanted to pay what I was asking. So I tried selling off the parts. Now that I'm separated from my wife, I care more about the car then taking care of her family. So I've stopped trying to sell and I am looking forward to trying to finish my project.

One word: Money. Don't forget that the SVX is a car that most people buy nowadays for less than $5000. Buying a supercharger kit that costs 1.5 times as much as the car isn't in most people's budgets.

Re: S/C in the SVX....Why are they selling?

I want more power.. Plain and simple... I might get to about 400whp with my supercharger. I would like to get to 450+ with a trubo... Come drive my car and see what it feels like....

Re: S/C in the SVX....Why are they selling?

actually, it had a lot to do with LAN. I didn't want to work on his "kit" anymore. I would have been better off from day one if I just built my own turbo or s/c kit. Instead I spent a lot of $ on his kit to save myself the time and aggrivation only to have even more with trying to get it to run right. IF you buy a stage 3, you will need a Hydra EMS if you want it to run properly.

Re: S/C in the SVX....Why are they selling?

If it was not already obvious, I am 'tech' illiterate. I am mechanically minded, but alot of the numbers and lingo of the tuning of these engines goes right over my head. (my apologies). Its not that I can't understand it, its that the learning curve is high, and I dont have the opportunity to have it drummed into me.

Wont run 'right' w/o a hydra?

explain?

Also, would it be safe to assume that no matter what kind of F/I I choose, Stage III, Turbo, custom S/C, the Hydra is pretty much a must?

Its hard to figure what upgrades are a universal plus.

Im looking to boost up the car, but I DEFINITELY want it to run like it was 'stock' more then anything, as in, no odd quirks that make it obvious it was a hack job power upgrade.

Also Tom, on a 2nd note, your custom exhaust sounds awesome on the clip (omg. better then stebro? ur god). But I cant trust internet clips of course, the ears are everything. REALLY want to get to reading to hear it.

As far as both the stebro and ur custom exhaust, are they both F/I appropriate? negligable difference? your thoughts? I dont need dynos or anything, just ur thoughts. (again, im looking for a 'stock' feel to the car after its boosted.)

I hate to say it but yes, if you are looking to run FI and do it right, you will need something other than the Stock ECU whether it be a hydra or a megasquirt or other SAEM. Plainly put, the stock ECU is not capable of handling the large and sudden swings in load using the MAF. I have found the ECU defaults to an extremely retarded timing advance when it encounters something of this nature. The PD blower used in LAN's stage 3 is great found instantanious power, but on the same token, I don't think the stock ECU in any shape or form using an MAF alone will be able to keep up with it. Considering the expense of going to any FI system it would not be worth it to try and use an engine computer that will perform any less than the components under the hood.

As for the exhaust, the systems we offer in kit form are not meant for any form of FI. They are for mild N/A modifications. Anything more than that will need an entire exhaust that will need to be built around they engine and its components

I find myself asking similar questions, frequently. unless you have a large budget approx 10k you wont get what your looking for. You will have to settle for either... nitrous ..which will affect long term durability...or Natural aspirated upgrades...Hyrda,Exhaust, manual trans,intake,etc...

If you improve the handling charecterstics of your car, it will "feel" faster because you can carry more speed through turns. Swaybars (if available) or even coil overs. They are expensive but I havent met anyone who regrets installing them.
