Re: Manifold paint

It looks goldish though. This is probably cleaner than John's though

Absolutely outstanding, Michael!

This can only be achieved only by having the manifold out of the car and refinished in pieces. Doesn't get any more perfect.

Re: Manifold paint

Just thought I would post some pictures of my intake after using oven cleaner to eat away at the buildup inside the manifold. I was not remotely expecting the results I obtained.

There was no scrubbing. Just spray, wait a few minutes then wash away with hose. I also just finished using the loctite aluminum jelly and I was dissapointed with its results. It didnt really clean the outside but it may have made it marginally brighter. Oh well, I have primer and the plastikote 282 ready.

Re: Manifold paint

The results are spectacular! What oven cleaner did you use? Where can I buy it?

Re: Manifold paint

^ Just some Easy Off brand but it was the blue bottle. Spray it on and only leave it on for a few minutes then rinse with water. If it's really bad do it multiple times.

Re: Manifold paint

That's awesome! I'll definitely throw that in my bag of tricks for cleaning up carbon deposits - I hate fighting with that crap. Wonder how it would work on exhaust tips?

Thanx for the idea. Did the manifold before having the outside oxidation lightly sandblasted off. Painted the result with VHT engine primer and Al color than a satin clear coat.

Re: Manifold paint

After drying it I used some denatured alcohol and wiped down the manifold. There was some spotting but I then used Plastikote engine primer followed with the rebuilders cast (as John suggested).

I can upload some recent shots of the manifold. Its about to go back into the ar after getting all the hoses and misc parts replaced

Re: Manifold paint

I wanted to take some pictures outside in the sun. The garage doesnt let in much light but here is the final outcome.

I also painted the power steering reservoir, belt cover, strut covers, cowl & wipers while I was at it
