SVX Owner Again

It's been 2 years since I sold my 95 Polo LSi, and today I am happy to say I am the proud owner of a very clean 92 Liquid Silver LSL. I pick it up next weekend. I hope that it is as mechanically sound as it is pretty. Regardless, it is going to be a third car and will be babied. I'll post some pictures after I pick her up. And yes the wheels are on backwards and they probably will be for a while longer. --Maybe I should Photoshop them on the right way.

Re: SVX Owner Again

No not yet, this one has been in Turbotsville for the past 3 years. But I saw that Silver one once too up near Boiling Springs, -and I think I spotted you again turning off 114 a week or 2 ago. Also I've seen a red one around here too.

Finally Picked it up

Well I finally got it home. It was about a 2 hour trip through a lot of empty Central Pennsylvania roads. I was hoping it wouldn't break down in the middle of nowhere, since I didn't have a chase car, but it did pretty good, no real issues.

A couple minor things, the bulb that lights up the gear shift must be burnt out, and the left tailight has some water condensation in it. I'm not sure if they are even worth addressing. It has a the obligatory chip in the spoiler which I must have overlooked the first time I saw it. A droopy passenger visor and very slight discoloration in the headlights. Oh and the wheels are on backwards. But overall a very clean and shiny 92 LSL.

That first night I felt some hesitation at highway speed and the rpms would momentarily dip. It happened a few times, but I didn't feel anything like that the next day so I don't know what to make of it. The neighbors are already asking what it is. The lady across the street was surprised when I told her it was a 92, she thought it was a brand new car and kept asking about the windows. Feels good to be an owner again. I have always felt that the SVX is one of the best looking cars ever made. I have a few pictures but they don't show how good it really does look. Did I mention it has never been smoked in and came with 3 keys and two Key FOBs. Anyhow hear they are.

Hey, if you need any help with the car, let me know. I'm not near as good as Tom, but I know how to address some of those issues. For example, my gear shift light was burned out and I replaced it. In fact, I have the second bulb from the pack still in the storage compartment behind the shifter.

Also the hesitation might be linked to the IRIS check valve. My car was having the same problem and Tom said that the IRIS check valve is probably the culprit for hesitation. It may also help to check your TPS, adjust it, etc.

Absolutley I'll take any help I can get. It would be good to have someone who knows the SVX look it over and give me an opinion. I'm pretty mechanically inclined when it comes to fixing household items, but when it comes to car repair, I'm kind of helpless.

Well, if you want someone who knows the SVX well, OT is the way to go. He's just over 2 hours from Mechanicsburg (I just made the trip on Friday). I do know some about the car though so I could help somewhat.

Re: SVX Owner Again

I'm pretty sure I will be making that trip to WV at some point. But right now I am still feeling the pinch caused by writing the check for the car. For now I just want to change the oil, change the transmission fluid and put a few more miles on it. If the light bulb for the shifter is an easy fix I'd like to do that too. (When I picked it up Saturday night I had to turn on the interior spot to put it in gear.)

I am a little concerned about the hesitation, but I need to drive it more to see how much of an issue it is. Anyway I don't think it is bad enough that I can't live with it for a while. [knock on wood]

I know we are pretty close, we should definetly meet up sometime and check out each others SVXs. [I'll send you a PM]

Does the light set on the dash not work? I replaced the one right at the gear shift, the one on the dash though is a totally different story.

Re: SVX Owner Again

Yes, the dash indicator works, it's the one on the shifter that doesn't work.
