5mt tranny swap problems

I am using the tranny out of a 99 Impreza Outback. It has two electronic sensors on it. Both are two wire sensors. One must be the reverse sensor and the other must be the speed sensor. I was under the impression that I will need to swap out the speed sensor for my stock svx sensor. If that is true then I'll have to tap a huge hole in the tranny because the threads for the three wire svx sensor are way bigger than either of the Impreza sensors. The svx sensor I'm referring to is the one from the front differential area. Am I using the wrong one?

So [1] Do I need to swap speed sensors?

[2] If so, how?

[3] If not, how do I wire the two wire sensor into the three wire harness?

Also, I don't understand the need for the helicoil kit. Is the lower stud supposed to swapped over to the one from the svx? Why? I understood that I needed to use the starter that goes with the tranny/flywheel so why does that matter?

the two sensors you see of the driver's side of the trans are the reverse sensor and neutral sensor. the rear most one is the reverse sensor which needs to be wired into the inhibitor switch system. The other can be left alone. the 3 wire speed sensor from the SVX is placed on the passenger side of the transmission. There is a hole there for it already.

For the helicoil... The early model transmission already had a lower starter stud but if yours does not you need to find a way to secure the bottom half of the starter to the transmission. I use a helicoil to accept the stud from the automatic.

Tom you are a wonderful person and I thank you. the moment I read your post I realized where it would most likely go, and lo and behold, removed the old cable attachment and bam! it fit right in. Now for another problem. I think my speed sensor was damaged in the old tranny. It appears that I should have a tip of something sticking out of the sensor, but instead it is hollow and deep inside there is a square post hole for something to plug into. Do I need to replace my speed sensor?
