Another dead Trans???

Well, the trans in Melis's car has started acting up after about 3 weeks.

About a month ago, I removed the trans to replace the front diff. While it was out, I adjusted the brake band to spec (6'#'s then back 3 turns).

For a few weeks it shifted great, in all gears, smooth as can be. Earlier this week she mentioned that it would slip in 1st and 2nd under hard acceleration. I told her to try it with the selector in 2nd, and that seemed to help the slipping. By the time I got here to look at it on Thursday, it was starting to slip no matter where the selector was.

I checked all the lines for kinks, pulled the resistor and tightened the brake band about a turn. I also checked her TPS, there was a dead spot, just above idle, so I swapped that out.

It is slipping in all gears, including reverse. It seems like it's not getting pressure.

I'm getting it towed to my place so I can pull the pan and check the internal filter. Anything else I should check??

Dave/Melis,
Sorry to hear about the trans...slipping in all gears is not a good sign...

Replace the main line pressure control solenoid (A) while you are at it and reconnect the resistor.

If you do this please report the result.

I have a few tranny's around, is there a way I can check that solenoid to make sure I put a good one in?

It would be best to fit a new solenoid.

However you can check that there is no debris which could be preventing it from closing properly. Give it a careful wash through in petrol or whatever, while operating it.

Apply 12 volts to the coil and as you operate it on/off, blow through it as a means of testing that the valve and seat are clear, undamaged and sealing properly. It will not taste nice but what the hell.

Not a positive test as normal pressure will not be applied, but still worthwhile. If you have access to compressed air, use it for both cleaning and testing.

Well it's a good thing the asshole that did her last tranny job warranties his work

Before I tore into it today, I decided to doublecheck the ATF level... the dipstick's dry. I just checked it before the issue started and it was full. It did not leave 3+ quarts of ATF on a puddle or in a cloud.... Check the front diff, it's full of redness

So I drain the diff and refill it with not ATF'd gear oil. Add 2 quarts of ATF to the trans and take it for a little drive. She shifts like a dream

So... back off with the trans, back off with the front diff and use NEW seals. What do I need?
I know I shouldn't have reused that tube with the rubber on each end (I did used permablack on it )

What other seals do I need, I don't want to do this again.
