Nice Laguna Blue on eBay

Anybody see this?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...MakeTrack=true

Looks nice. The description reads like it is from a dealer. He says it can be bought straight for £3k.

Looks optimistic, considering Carl's really nice red UK model with leather and all the goodies did not make £2.5k

It has the gray interior with the cheaper seats like Phil's and Belha's green one. So I am guessing it is the S40 11 version.

He makes out like the BBS rims were fitted aftermarket, but they were probably standard or fitted as an option, they are the same as the S4 rims.

I must say the Laguna Blue colour is lovely, and very rare, and the condition looks nice. It will be surprising if he gets more than £2.5k with recent eBay history, but who knows?

Joe

Colour mismatch?

Anybody checking out this car, pay particular attention to the colour as to originality.

It looks like a Laguna Blue. Laguna Blue is called Blue Mica in Japan. It was only available on S3 cars in '94-'95. The code for this paint is #389.

The problem is, this paint should be all over the car. This particular version, S3, did not have the black roof and bootlid.

Assuming that this is an S3, it will also have the cheaper rev sensitive power steering, rather than the speed sensitive type on the better spec cars.
[It does look like an S3, it has the blue glass with no sunshade band across the windscreen]

So anybody checking out this car, have a look at the colour code on the aluminium plate on the lhs front suspension turret. It should say 389. If not, then it has had a major respray somewhere along the line.

Friday, 11.15 AM.

There are about 4 hours to go, price has reached £2300 with reserve not reached yet.

I am expecting he has set the reserve close to or at £3000, and it won't reach it.

Interesting to watch.

Bidding ended at £2300. Reserve not met.

I am too modest and have too much integrity to say "I told you so"

Maybe the car is worth more than the bids went up to. Without seeing the condition up close it is hard to say.

It is a very nice colour in the photos, and the wheel rims look to be in smashing condition.

There does not seem to be too many out there cash in hand looking to buy our SVXs, now does there?

Joe

Joe hi, suspect you are right not too many SVX buyers out there ! Watched several on Ebay over last year and never seem to reach beyond £2500. I was very tempted to add a JDM Silver/black one which was sold by a guy in Solihull, close to me. Condition was very good etc, mileage lowish and he struggled to even get just over £2k. He had bought it for his brother who was back in the UK and suspect he paid £4k 12 mths earlier ! Doesn't seem any likelihood of values picking up... our 94M 96k miles probably wouldn't make £2k. Not worth selling , worth more to us to keep and cherish ! David

Well David, I'm glad to hear you are keeping, not selling.

Darren has told me he knows of people getting high figures for SVXs, and he is in the business. I don't doubt his word. In my opinion, they are actually worth much more than they are generally making, particularly on eBay.

It would be better to park them up, and wait till they start to get scarce, or at least become attractive to the market.

I'm keeping mine at any rate

Hi guys,

Here's a link for the kind of money they are making in Japan!

http://www.tradecarview.com/stock/detail.aspx?id=98678

Thats around £4670 in Japan!

The car would stand in over £7500 inc shipping, duty, fee's and full registration in the UK.

Most make around the £4000 mark in Japan, hense why not many come into the UK & the ones that are cheap when they do need a careful look at!
They have become popular in Japan again and the Russian's have pushed the price through the roof as its become a bit of a cult car out there.

On the subject of dealers over here, 1 has just sold in Derby this week for £4995, JDM 94 in green VE spec with 98K miles and a half tidy car, 1 UK owner from import last year and no service history.

Hi Joe,

As you know I bought mine off Ebay, I had a budget and stuck to it, but that seems to be the way when buying blind.
Fortunately for me I got a good UK example with full Subaru service and all documents. If someone was to wave even 6 grand in front of my nose right now...I still wouldn't sell, and that takes a lot coming from a yorkshire man!!
It's a car that puts a smile on my face every time I get in it, and when I've finished telling people what it is and the spec it has, well, it's worth a little more...
I think it's a victim of it's own rarity and the general car buying puplic dont know the features it hides, not to mention the design, only this month in Top Gear mag is there a few concept cars with rear lights running all the width of the boot and twin exhausts....., not seen that before

What I dont get is poeple are willing to part with 12 grand or so for a new car and think they are getting a great deal when offered half of that 3 years later on a trade in.......but wont go a few bob more for a car like ours, I know I've got a great looking car thats still worth what I paid for it ,and more, and lost no money in the last 3 years.....

Who is the richer?.....till the gear box goes

Another £700 for the blue SVX to secure a purchase would not have been sore!

John

Another £700..

You are right John I know

I was only basing my judgement on the fact that the lovely red car Mark had at the show was unable to make £2500 on two showings on eBay.

This in spite of it's being a good quality UK car with all the bells and whistles!! Plus a lovely set of new rims!

The guy looked for £2995 in the ad. I suspect if he had indicated £2500, they might have kept bidding.

The feed of cars coming from Japan will have to slow before the price stabilises and moves up.

Meantime, hold on to your car, particularly anyone with a good UK car like you have.

Joe

Hiya Joe,

I think the flow from Japan is basically a trickle now, as you can see from the prices they are fetching in Japan is pointless anyone bringing 1 into the UK hoping to make a reasonable profit, its mainly going to be private buyers and the odd dealer who can source a bargain.

I have no doubt prices will increase over the next 12 months, a good genuine car will still make its money with a enthusiast who knows what he wants and has done his homework.

I'm in the same camp as John, mine is not for sale, where else do you find anything this side of 20K and not built in Italy that has the same performance and presence on the road? Even if I won the lottery I would still have an SVX in the garage.

Have a good weekend all
Darren

Interesting thread this one. The Japanese car per the link from Darren seems a very average car and seems expensive compared to what you see over here ( from my limited knowledge !). I will change my sig file as ours is not for sale. I am thinking of selling my main car and running the SVX everyday.... personal circumstances, marriage breakdown hope the SVX doesnt !

I still think they are a beautiful car and heads turn wherever you go, as you can see the what the hell is that look ! Ours runs well... touch wood !

I do hope the marriage breakdown is temporary and not a write-off

Just tonight I started up Black Betty and gave her a whizz around the yard. Brings the magic back, I hope to get her fully sorted soon.

The car would not start, and I thought it was voltage. Turned out to be the immobiliser. I had to reset it to get it to work. When sorted, she started for a turn of the key.

Yep, I'm keeping mine too.

Joe

I've been watching it John.

Dayle has a lot of stuff for SVXs on his site. I love that silver colour.

Only 3 or 4 hours to go. Wonder what she'll make?

Sold!!

Finally, after a number of listings. The blue car sold for £2450.

Fancy that! That's a whole £50 less than the £2500 I predicted.

It does have very nice wheels though, and there is now another blue car on Autotrader for the really silly sum of £4000.

We'll see what happens.
