I'm actually pretty upset that i had to sell it. I always thought the RX would be a superb rally machine. It handled snow, mud, rain, dirt, gravel, ashphalt, AMAZINGLY.. The full-time 4wd & turbo combination was unbeatable.. shame about the low output though.

Hey Adam,
Yep I had an RX to! It was accually my first Subaru....it gave me the Subie Bug It was a great car, couldn't stop it in the snow.
Mine was white, here is a link to a pic of it:

Celica vote

I drove one of the AWD Celica's some time ago and it's quite a machine - but too long ago to logically compare to an SVX - except on the grand-touring front it was nowhere near the SVX.

While they're quite expense as old toyotas go, keep in mind the engine is the same as the turbo MR2 (designed by Yamaha). One of the import rags a couple of years got 500HP to the rear wheels of an MR2 doing mostly bolt-on stuff (able to generate a third gear wheelie). The MR2 was subsequently sold, then promptly involved in an accident that totaled the car.

The basic design (about as stock as NASCAR stock and done by TRD I think - with many pounds of boost) produced around 1000HP - and to my knowledge still holds the Pike Peak Hill Climb record.

Just depends on how much cash you have.

What's a Quattro?

Is that something like a haiku?

I remember that. I beleive it was either Sport Compact Car or Turbo that did it. They got pretty close to 500 and then got lean and blew the engine.(the first time they tried it)

Having driven the A4, A8, and S8 I can tell you that these are some of the finest cars made. The S8 is an unbelievable car, smoother ride than even the SVX and as you all know thats saying a lot. And my god the power. A stock S8 has 350 horses give or take, of course they have quite a lot of weight to lug around too. But they still feel very agile and the full time AWD (quattro) is fun too.

The tiptronic system is really neat, that is exactly what we need in the SVX. Huck can you make it happen? I'd buy one. They handle all types of weather very well and are a very comfortable ride. Not inexpensive though. One day when I can no longer find a good SVX I am going to replace it with an Audi S4.

The early Quattros were based on the 4000 and should be getting pretty reasonable. The AWD unit in them, sorry to say, is superior to Subaru's. In rally competition they were the cars to beat.

Uh.... ....No.

Never been around one, so I don't have a clue as to how they work

Subaru XT-6 and SVX

I would agree with Huck on the XT or XT6.

I had a (just sold it) 5 speed XT6, its pretty quick and the 4wd is unbeatable. In the snow this car tracks like a tank! It runs in All-wheel drive, but then you can hit a switch to lock the differential so then you have true 4-wheel drive. The styling is very unique, some love it, others think its weird. When the XT body style came out in 1985, it was the most aerodynamic vehicle on the market. When the SVX came out in late 1991, it replaced the XT6 in the line of subies. Although I love my SVX, the XT6 feels much more stable in the snow. But of course the SVX would blow it away on the highway.

Hey Punisher,

There is an XT-6 on Ebay located in PA.
It will probably sell for under $1500.

spare XT-6 motor

If you are looking into getting a spare moter for your XT-6, Harry's in Hazelton has an XT-6 on his lot. Of course, I'm not sure in what shape it is, but there's one there.

That XT-6 on ebay says it's pa inspection has ran out. I wouldn't ever even think about purchasing a car that needs an inspection. Obviously there's a reason they haven't had it inspected. It may just be the windsheild....but who knows.

My dad has a '99 A6. It is quite sweet. Although i heard in 2000 they made a V8 supercharged A6? I dunno.

But anyway....it is VERY smooth, and he just got brand new tires (too lazy to go look what they are) It is very quiet, and ok powerwise (he only has V6). SVX can easily beat it off the line and on the run.

P.S. A8's come in full aluminum body, but they still weigh a lot.
