Illinois SVX Mechanic

Hi I live in Illiniois and was wondering if anyone had a good mechanic to refer me to other than the dealer. I'm in chicago but have 100 miles of free towing.

What's wrong with your car?

Sorry, I don't have any recommendations. I do all my own stunts whenever possible. I have had to take a couple of my cars to the local dealer, but I have had mixed results so far.

Its a clank sound

When I'm driving it, I really stopped driving it because it had a bad vibration underneath and it makes a big clank sound when its going in reverse especially. Like the trans mounts are broken or something.

great info

Hey guys,
I will be doing some work on my SVX this month. The list consists of new performance rotors, and pads, and hopefully a new exhaust system if its not to expensive.

Is the shop in arlington heights realiable for a brake swap, and exhaust repair? I just need some re-welding done on the pipes.

After reading this I just realized all us Chicagoland SVXers never meet? plus there is very few of us much less poor local subaru support.

I dont want to hijack this thread but its a good place to suggest we meet up (so we know where and who is in town). I have seen a silver, black pearl and a green one so far. (i Am brilliant red). and mostly in schaumburgland.

jus a thought.

BTW ask seraph, he is also in the area and migh have waht you need.

Sorry, forgot about this thread. Yea they do it all there. Custom exhust (mandrel bender) breaks, and what ever.

It would be nice to meet up with some locals.

Is that expensive. Should I only let subaru do the work? Or is it simple and any place can get it done?

Through Subaru, you'll have to buy a whole new drive shaft....about $400 plus labor...

There is a company that sells u-joints to replace the ones in our drive shaft
http://www.staugustinefwd.com/RWD/Staked/staked.html

Which is the cheapest way to go....unless your's has a bad CV joint (Some SVX's have a CV joint at the carrier bearing, some don't), if that's the case, I guess a new or used drive shaft would be the only choices
