mystery plug

On the drivers side of the car there is the grey female end of the 02 sensor and another female end of another plug attached to it. It is a small and oval shaped. Does anyone know what this could be?

If I'm understanding you correctly, there are multiple plugs wired onto your O2 sensor? Is it a generic O2 sensor with plugs for various cars?

well on the passengers side the 02 plug is alone. On the drivers side of the car the same grey o2 plug is taped together in the same harness with another smaller black plug.

It probably is the front left (driver) tone sensor plug for the abs. It may also be for one of the front engine sensors. (crank or cam)

What is acting up on the car should be a clue. If no one has an answer, i'll check at home tonight while I'm playing with the svx.

Well nothing in particular is acting up. I just put a low mileage engine in my car and I cant get it to start. It turns over smoothly but wont fire. Would not having exhaust manifolds on a car not allow the engine to fire for any reason. Im being optimistic

sounds like a cam or crank sensor if it turns with no fire check to see if its getting ingnition and fuel pressure and check the codes you sould be able to run it with no manifolds... it wont run very well though

Well i found the other end of the plug. Under the driver valve cover ....and it just started and ran. It was running very rough though. Could this be caused by the lack of manifolds or should i look further....(timing belt )

just out of curiosity, mechanicly what is the lack of manifolds doing to the engine to cause it to run rough.

I'm sure one of our veterans or mechanics on this site can give you a more technical answer, but I'm guessing the engine running rough has to do with the absence of back pressure. I know that removing restrictions from the exhaust path is beneficial (i.e. mandrel bends and free flowing muffler, etc.), but the complete lack exhaust pressure has a negative effect on engine performance. I think that's why all the riceboys who put 3" exhaust and a huge fart can on their 1.8L Hondas actually see a decrease in the already embarrassing amount of torque their engines produce.

Just my $.02. I'll await the more technical replies
