Off to the Tranny Shop

Well I have ruined another transmission on my 92 SVX.
I will be dropping her off at that the transmission shop tonight for a 3 day stay. The guys there are really knowledgeable and the builder has over 30 years of experience.
The best it that they are working with me. I am having them rebuild the original SVX tranny, but installing a 4.11 front diff and pinion. They will take out the tranny that is in the car, rebuild the torque converter, and then install the rebuild tranny. Plus I am getting a two year warranty parts and labor. Price tag will be up to $2200 to $2400.
I am so happy to be getting my baby fix, again. Will let you know how thing turn out.

Steve

I know you've been here a long time and know your stuff but its worth stating. Are you using the stock tranny cooler? Also I would clean any tranny lines and change any filters for the tranny while its at the shop. Again I know this is common knowlege but just wanted to make sure you knew. Hopefully this is the last rebuild for a while for you.

Thanks Want-a

I have and external cooler rated at 5000 gvw and a external filter too.

Actually this is my first rebuild. All the other 3 have been swaps. I have never had the torque converter cleaned out professionally or rebuilt. Jim at the transmission shop believe strongly that this is what has caused the quick failures of my trannys. The shop that I am taking it too is TSI, Transmission Shop Inc. Jim, the owner, was very knowledgeable on Subaru trannys in how they fail.

Jim told me that he will flush out the external cooler and lines with the rebuild. They are starting on the car tomorrow. I should have the car back by Friday. A quick three day turn-a-round. He is also swapping parts so that I have, I think, the first SVX 4.11 tranny. Meaning mating a 4.11 pinion and front diff to my original SVX tranny.

I can not wait until Friday!!!!
