the stealership is definately wrong....look at your dashboard....should say something like "premium fuel only" on the gage face by the mileage reset button. Minimum octane I run on my car is 93 which is premium. Your owners manual should say that too. How is your car running?? The ECU is programmed to run with high octane unless modified. Perhaps another member can explain why our engine needs high octane....something with combustion or air/fuel mixture..... I think if you keep running lower octane, you will form more and more carbon deposits in the engine or something of that nature.....hopefully I'm kinda close on my explaination.
I think there is a thread or two on this subject....I'm just trying to remember without looking at them. |

""Everyone is right. It says "premium fuel only" for a reason. The higher octane allows for a slightly higher compression ratio. That creates more power. Also, putting anything below the recommended 91 will result in premature detonation which is not good. It leads to power loss and the engine is not designed for that. "" - Quote from Sidewinder
Here just found one reason for you by Sidewinder on another thread. |

the higher octane is the only way the engine will run properly with our higher compression. Why do you think these 12/1 cr drag racers are using race fuel? It is an insanely high compression ratio that requires an insanely high octane point. It allows for a full burn of the fuel. lower octane fuels will not have full burn and cause carbon build up among other things

I run 92-94 in Mine. If you run anything lower you can also clog your CAT's which is bad if you have emissions testing like I have here in BC. I also ran 92 in my old CRX that reached over 200Miles and the engine was mint.

So what is your decision now?
In my opinions, they're not expensive to get now but expensive to fix and maintain. My teal is good...not much problem. My yellow bought it with the favor of the color. First repair is like 900bucks more and second repair now they're working on - swap tranny. I hope don't go more than 1200/1300...but it might. Still has some bugs(money!!) to work on to make her better...
