Cooper Zeon Sport review

As many of you know I recently had to purchase tires with little time to wait for the ones I really wanted. i just made my trip to philly and I am very impressed. The wet traction is impressive and the dry traction is also very good. They are quieter than the Pirellis and have much more grip. I took a relatively sharp turn at or around 9(leave this digit open) and the tires did not skip a beat or even feel like they wanted to budge. I was weighed down with a couple hundred pounds of eg33 and R160's in the trunk but still, they performed above my expectations. I am very happy with my purchase and would like to share

Tom,
What size tires did you end up getting? 225/50 or something more "sporty"?
I take it they're on the RX-7 rims?

Also what's the tread wear rating and how much did a set of four cost?

Stock size, 22550/r16 but they actually have a wider tread area than the Pirellis. They are mounted on the RX7 wheels and have a tread wear rating of 400. They costed me $109 each plus $50 for the mount and balance, all in all not a bad deal

TomsSVX Update review

om;
How are the Cooper Zeons holding up? Still quiet? Handle well? Are they directional?

I will need to replace my tires soon and am considering the Cooper Zeon.
BTW, they will be on stock wheels.

Anyone else;

Any recommendations? Have checked the local Navy Exchange and they can get the Firestone (I know - Bridgestone) Fusion, BF Goodrich GForce Sport, or Uniroyal TigerPaw. Checked all three websites and Goodrich, Michelin, and Uniroyal all say they have no tire to fit the Subaru 1994 SVX! I know that can't be right! Fusion looks ricey and I suspect the price they quoted was for the H speed rated model.

I commute 100+ miles per day on paved country (1/2), freeway (1/4), and city (1/4) roads/streets and need good tires but don't need street-racer tires. What will fit, run quietly, and run long?

Thanks for your help.

Tom

I've put about 3000 miles on a set of Cooper Lifeliner SLE Touring tires, V-rated (149 MPH), OEM size, on stock wheels, and have no complaints so far. Makes sense to run a touring rather than performance tire on a daily driver, in my view. Cost was just over $500, balanced, mounted and out the door.

Unless your daily drive is on nice twisty roads . . .

Actually, the route I take home every afternoon is one of the "twistiest" roads around. Lightly traveled. too. I rounded this flat, sweeping, near-180 hairpin in the rain the other day to find a car off in the trees, steam pouring from the radiator. Driver was okay, but her car was surely totaled.

They way I see it is if the better tires save you from even a single accident then they've already paid for themselves.

Thanks, Darrell

Darrell;

Thanks for the info. I agree, this car was built for highway cruising... touring tires should be the best choice for it. I'll check availability and price on the Cooper Lifeliner SLE tires here.

Carefull in that rain!

Yes I still like the Coopers a little more than the Pirellis because they are a little bit quieter. They also handle better in the dry

Yeah, understand that I'm not dissing performance tires; just saying that for routine driving with a spirited run every now and then, good all-season touring tires will likely provide competent handling with superior ride and longer wear. On the other hand, if all you do with your SVX is get out and tear-up the twisties on Sunday afternoons, then you might as well go for something more aggressive.

The only negative about these Coopers is that they don't have a rim-guard sidewall.

I live in Philly for the most part. I have to deal with crumby roads and paralell parking in a heart beat, not once have I touched a rim to the curb. Not skill, the tires do a good job protecting the rims even my 8" wide wheels. they would do fine on a 7.5" wheel which are stockers

update on the review. I give them an 8 out of 10 in the snow. These tires are amazing. Too bad I couldn't have more fun drifting, I got too much traction
