Uk Insurance

Hi folks, its insurance renewal time ( ouch ). Have it as a second car , hence no NCB as all on the main car ( and with a M5 it is needed lol) hence should have racked up 1 yrs NCB now . Limited to 3k miles / yr took it out at £290 with Adrian Flux but they want £342 for renewing , no claims made etc !!!

How does this compare UK owners ? Anyone any suggestions who to use as feel Flux are doing the usual insurance company ruse of cheap introductory yar then rip you off after then. It is classed as a modern classic !! Someone recognises the SVX !!!!

Cheers, David

Hi,

well this'll be my first post then! I have been quoted 488 from Adrian Flux for fully comp unlimited mileage, 530 with protected no claims. I'm 28 and have another car insured with them. Also have 5 years no claims to use. Sounds like I am coming off worst! I do have 2 claims in my history one over three years ago and one 2 years ago. I guess thats what sending my quote up??

What age are you guys?

Thanks

Hi Rolling.......

Welcome welcome !!

Even managed to beat Joe this time !!

Last question first : I'm 33.

Insurance is a racket in this country, but not a bad as some places. I'd be happier if the service you received was better when you needed it, and the premium cost escalation due to uninsured drivers and "loss recovery"/Ambulance chasing solicitors.......... but anyway !!

There are some insurance co's that allow a single policy to cover multiple vehicles, certainly my father did this with his two MG's through Lancaster Insurance, which is the MG Owners Club prefered co. (many of the single make classic car clubs use Lancaster). The basis is that you alone are insured on both vehicles, and since you cannot be driving both at the same time you have full cover on the one your driving and basic cover on the other, but you don't have to specify which you use at any given time.

There are other co's which will similarly allow an "everyday" car on the policy of a "specialist" car on the same basis.

Or you use someone like Flux/Footman James/etc and buy a "one off" policy yearly for your second car. I insured the MG V8 with Footman James on this basis. It's a one-off payment of about £250 for 5k miles per annum, it does not attract NCD and cannot be "layed up" or cancelled. Maybe I should be checking out other policies as I would have built up some NCD by now, but there you go.

The first quote Angela had for our SVX was over £1k.......... currently it's in the £400 bracket from memory.

Phil.

Thanks,

I think my 488 quote is actually not too bad. would have prefered less of course but its a powerful car so expected. I will try a couple more numbers and see what comes up then if nothing beats it I'll go for the Adrian Flux. Probably better to keep things all together anyway!

Cheers

John

The Great Uk Insurance Rip Off !

I'm 42 have made no claims , have 9+ yrs protected on my " everyday car" and I guess the policy with Adrian Flux is a one off , no NCD build up etc ( will check this with them as it may be a classic type as referred to) It just annoys that they know you cannot be driving the two at the same time etc !!! £342 seems OK but why it went up £50 for no reason is beyond me unless as mentioned it is because of the ambulance chasing scumbags driving premiums up as a result. I "only" pay £640 pa for my main car which is a 1999 BMW M5 which makes the SVX rate very dear !!! Hey ho , lets go to quote The Ramones ! David

Just to give you an example:

Jaguar S Type V8, parked on street - purchase price of £10,500 - £800 p/a with Churchill (my flatmates car - aged 28) - they acknowledge the 60% no claims bonus from Oz (the maximum you can get)

Me (also 60%), 29 got a qoute on a 1992 LS400 for (get this....£550!!! - he was leaving the country and I got him down from £1800!!!) - they wanted £850!

*laughing head off*

Yeah, right!

Needless to say, still on the trains!

Wonder what the quote would be on a 2003 VW Phaeton???

Bit Of A Thicko !

Have now read through the renewal quote properly as I should have done before ! Price is actually £287 , Flux add on extras such as recovery etc to give a highlighted price. Knocking these out the £287 seems v good to me and they were excellent for my friends imported Celica VVTi , sorry Adrian Flux you are forgiven !
