heat shields

holy crap this is annoying me. This noise i described in another thread happens when its at 1,800-2000 rpms...never below never above. Its coming from the right side of the car....can someone please show me a pic of the exhaust and circle the heat shields for me? Tom took one off that got rid of a rattle but this one is so annoying.

That is the exact engine speed where I had the same problem. Sounded like an old Chevy pickup truck with the tailpipe draging on the road. When I climbed under the car with my wife holding the engine @ 2000 the sound was coming right at the center-muffler/resonator. I had Midas cut it out and weld in a straight pipe - and it is history. What a sweet sound (not hearing that resonator rattle.)

I didn't circle the heat shields, but I have two pics showing the pipes with and without the heat shields:

With heat shields

Without heat shields

Mine was $50, but I've seen others say they paid anywhere from $30 to $60.

I guess it depends on the day of the week, where you are located, how busy they are, and if the owner has a boat payment coming due.

Well I think it just might be the resonator then. Because when i have the windows down i notice the noise to be coming from the middle of the car on the right or a little towards the back on the right...hmm

It is hard to pinpoint. I used a rubber hose - with a metal tube in the end so that the rubber wouldn't melt on the hot resonator. Then it became obvious.

Mine changed as the resonator heated up. When it was cold it was quieter. A few weeks later it became loud when it was cold or hot. Apparently there is a metal piece that has broken loose inside and as it changes dimensions (when it heats up) the sound can change a little. The RPM resonating point moves a little over time but it was always within a couple of hundred RPM around 2000.
