Catalytic ting-ting

I have a semi-intermittant "ting-ting" type noise that I believe is coming from my exhaust, midway along the vehicle. It sounds like a loose piece of metal, but there's nothing external that's visible. I'm thinking something has come loose inside one of the catalytic convertors. Does this happen? If so, is there a fix?

Any other thoughts as to what this could be?

Also -- related to a Mitsu Diamante. Can overfilling the crankcase blow a rear oil seal?

don't know about the cat ting-ting.

As to oil overfill...not too likely. Too much oil can cause bearing problems because the crank may hit the oil and fling it around and thereby aerate the oil - which would not be good for bearing surfaces. I guess the seal could blow by excess pressure, but I fail to see how too much oil would make the pump perform at an elevated pressure level, but then again I know nothing about the Diamante engine. Now if the seal were marginal, and oil was being thrown against it, maybe it could look like a seal blew.

PRobably either the catalytic converter shield or the shields that sit over the down pipes. They usually rust and can be removed...as long as you don't park over any dry grass or leaves.
